What is the Vaccination Method?

Insemination is the process of taking the man's sperm cells and putting them into the woman's uterus with the help of a special catheter, after undergoing certain procedures. It is one of the methods used in patients who cannot have children for a long time. It is the method used especially in the treatment of male-related infertility (low sperm count, low motility, morphology disorder, etc.) and unexplained infertility (infertility for which no cause can be found).

In the insemination method, the semen undergoes some processes, thus cleansing it from toxins and bacteria, sperm activation begins, and the distance the sperm can travel is shortened. How is vaccination done step by step?

  • Stage – Evaluation and tests:

  • First of all, couples who are diagnosed with infertility, that is, who cannot have children despite regular intercourse for more than a year, are evaluated together. . A gynecological examination of the woman is performed. Hormones are checked on the 3rd day of menstruation. To evaluate whether the tubes are open or not, the structure of the uterus and whether the tubes are open are evaluated by hysterosalpingography test, which we call uterine-tube film, by injecting contrast material into the uterus immediately after the end of menstruation. The tubes must be open for vaccination. If the tubes are closed, the only chance for pregnancy will be in vitro fertilization.

In addition, spermiogram examination is performed to evaluate the male factor. In order for insemination to occur, there must be sufficient quantity and quality of sperm.

  • Stage - Preparation of Eggs

  • On the 3rd day of menstruation, after the eggs are evaluated with ultrasonography, hormone drugs or injections are used to develop the eggs. The growth of follicles in the eggs is evaluated by ultrasonography. Follicles grow approximately 2 mm per day. This process takes approximately 10-15 days. In the ultrasonography follow-ups, when the egg matures, that is, 16-20 mm, a cracking injection is given. 36-38 days after cracking injection. Vaccination is planned at the time.

  • Stage - Sperm preparation and insemination: Sperm taken after a 2-3 day sexual abstinence The sample is processed in the laboratory and the best and fastest ones are selected and concentrated. With sperm preparation, infectious agents and dead sperm in the semen are removed. The expectant mother, whose egg is matured with hormone medications, is prepared in the gynecological position. In a painless procedure that does not require anesthesia and takes 15 minutes, motile sperm are placed into the uterus and fertilization is expected to occur spontaneously. There is no need to restrict sexual intercourse after the procedure. Additionally, long-term rest is not required after the procedure. A doctor should be consulted when there is unexpected vaginal bleeding. IUI treatment can be applied up to 3 times if there is no serious defect in the sperm, the woman's tubes are open, and there is no concern about ovulation problems or loss of time due to the age factor. An average of 20% chance of pregnancy is given for each application. If success is not achieved after an average of 3-4 IUI cycles, IVF is recommended.
