Millions of students have been preparing for certain exams almost since primary school. If you are one of them, perhaps the first feeling that comes to your mind when the exam is mentioned is "anxiety". However, it should not be forgotten that anxiety is a very vital emotion. It increases performance and motivation. However, when it crosses the threshold and starts to increase, it may reduce your quality of life and negatively affect thousands of students like you.
So what should be done?
- *First of all, that day is an ordinary day; It will just be a morning where other people will suffer from traffic and families will chat in school yards and entrances and even around them. Even if it is not a general exam, it will be a day when birds will sing, cars will honk, and there will be seasonal discounts. There is no need to try to sleep early outside of the daily routine just because there is an exam. If you force yourself to do this, you will increase your stress level by giving too much meaning.
- Let's say the exam is somewhere outside the classroom. You arrived at the exam venue beforehand, sat down, and it seemed like everyone knew the subjects better than you. Your hands even started to shake. Got a stomach ache or did you need to go to the toilet? What if someone behind you turns the page while you are struggling with the questions, what if your stomach growls during the exam? What if you faint?..Well wait a minute.. Do you have 100%evidence that this will happen? Look for evidence, “Do I have evidence that I will fail, or is the fact that the child turned the page evidence that he passed every question knowingly?” If you don't have evidence; That thought is not real. And if your stomach growls, don't worry, in two minutes the girl in the opposite corner will growl too. Well, my same suggestions also apply to your school exams.
- As your excitement and stress increases, your heart beats faster and your breathing accelerates. Your hands may be sweating coldly, and sometimes you may even feel like you can't stand it. At times like these, slow your breathing and ask yourself what's the worst that could happen. When you breathe in through your nose or mouth, let your belly expand instead of your chest, hold it for a while, and then exhale slowly through your mouth. Repeat this a few times It will save time for your mind and body, relax your tense muscles, and is an exercise that no one can understand. Let's say your worst-case scenario comes true, is this situation too scary to bear? Isn't it?
- And because you are human, with your mistakes and successes; You don't have to be perfect. If you say you have to answer every question without mistakes, your job will become harder and you may not even be able to understand what is being asked because you will be angry with yourself when you can do it. At such times, when the question confuses you, just skip it and move on to the next one. Because if you spend 5 minutes on it, you may lose 5 questions. If you come back after doing what you understand better, your performance will increase.
- Maybe it will be as if I were speaking on behalf of your mother and father, but; Whether you get low or high, your people will continue to love you. Because you studied for yourself, not for them, and you are taking the exam for yourself. I know that when they and your acquaintances say "We trust you, you can do it", your stress and fear increases, but maybe they don't know what to say and such sentences come out of their mouths. Don't put too much meaning into it, they already trust and believe in you at all times.
- AND remember that your success in these exams cannot determine your value. Because there is no one like you in terms of personality, physique or behavior. So you; You are unique, you are very valuable. This valuableness also gives you a responsibility. Whatever you do, whatever goes through your mind and whatever you feel is yours. In fact, no one is forcing us to scare us or making us happy by force. Dont forget; Our feelings and reactions arise because of our thoughts.
