Revision Rhinoplasty

The surgical procedure performed because patients who have had one or more nose surgeries cannot have the nose shape they want after the operation or their nose shape is distorted as a result of trauma is called "Revision Rhinoplasty". With revision rhinoplasty surgery, the patient's breathing difficulties and nose deformity are corrected.

Pre-Surgical Interview

The patient's complaints about his nose during the meeting with the surgeon before the operation. and post-operative expectations are evaluated.

The deformity of the patient's nose is fully determined. (Curvature, swelling, fracture, nose tip falling, asymmetry problems, etc.)

Information is given about the causes of the detected problem(s), solution issues and the methods to be used for the operation are explained.

Operation. Beforehand, the patient's breathing situation is evaluated in detail with nasal endoscopy and, if necessary, a nasal-sinus film is taken. With these procedures, other problems are also detected in detail. If there are any problems detected during the operation (sinusitis, adenoid or nasal flesh, adhesion, etc.), they are corrected and the procedure is terminated in line with the patient's expectations. After these procedures are notified to the patient, if the patient deems it appropriate, a day is given for the operation and it is stated how to act while waiting for the surgery day.

Time for Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery

In Revision Rhinoplasty surgeries, if the patient is to undergo minor interventions, the intervention is performed 6 months after the previous surgery, and in case of major interventions, the intervention is performed approximately 1 year after the previous surgery.

Preparation for Surgery

Aspirin etc. 5-7 days before surgery. The use of drugs should be discontinued. (If the patient has a medication that he uses regularly, he should consult his doctor to determine whether this medication can be taken or not.)

Before the surgery;

Operation Method

Depending on the patient's previous rhinoplasty surgery(s) and the shape of the nose structure, technique or closed technique (no surgery scars on the nose) are applied.

The purpose of Revision Rhinoplasty is to make the patient's nose proportional to the patient's face and able to breathe comfortably. With this operation, the bone, cartilage and soft tissue of the patient's nose are reshaped. In addition, the operation corrects the drooping of the tip of the nose, loss of height, protrusion or concavity of the nasal bridge, and crookedness of the nose, thus providing the nose with an ideal appearance.

If the patient has adenoids, nasal flesh, adhesions, etc. in his nose that affect his breathing. If there are problems, they are intervened and resolved during the operation. After the operation, a special tape is applied to the patient's nose and a plastic splint or plaster cast is placed to remain for 6-7 days, and if necessary, a tampon is placed in the nose to remain for 2-3 days. The operation is performed under general anesthesia and takes 3-4 hours.

Healing Process

Patient Depending on the operation performed, the patient is discharged on the same day or the next day. After the surgery, facial swelling, bruising and pain are much less compared to previous surgeries.

On the first day after the operation, the patient is relieved by painkillers and cold application to the face. The patient should rest for a week after the operation and make sure his head is elevated. It is important for the head to be elevated for the swelling to go down quickly.

2-3 days after the surgery, if a perforated silicone splint was used, it can be removed and if there is a plastic splint on the nose, you can take a warm shower without getting it wet. The period 2-3 days after the surgery is the period when swelling and bruising are at their highest. Swellings and bruises vary depending on the person's skin structure and the technique applied and disappear quickly within 7-10 days.

One week after the surgery, the plastic splint and the attached tapes on the nose are removed and the nose is taped with a new skin-colored tape for another week to eliminate almost all of the edema.

The patient can return to work approximately 7-8 days after the surgery. The nose takes its final shape within a period of 6 months at the earliest and 1 year at the latest after the surgery.
