Arthritis of the knee joint is one of the most common diseases with advancing age. There are different treatment methods depending on the stage of the disease. The aim of treatment in early stage patients is to prevent the progression of the disease. In advanced stage patients, a number of treatments are applied that eliminate the friction of the bones against each other and enable painless movement. Knee prosthesis surgery is the type of surgical treatment with the most successful and satisfactory results among these treatments.
For patients who have advanced stage knee arthritis but have a disease that may prevent them from having knee prosthesis surgery or who do not want to have knee prosthesis surgery, other options are available. Another treatment option is "Genicular Neurotomy". Genicular Neurotomy is not intended to correct the problem in the cartilage or joint surface. The aim is to eliminate the pain complaint caused by the disease.
Before the Genicular Neurotomy procedure, it can be understood whether you are a suitable patient for treatment after a simple test performed in the clinic. If treatment is decided, the procedure is performed in the operating room under local anesthesia. The application takes approximately 15-20 minutes. During the procedure, the nerves that carry the pain sensation of our knee joint are permanently blocked with a cold Radiofrequency device.
