The main rules that the patient should pay attention to after periodontal surgery procedures are as follows:

After the surgical procedure, nothing should be eaten or drunk for approximately 2 hours until the numbness subsides.

Hot food and drinks (cola, tea, chocolate, coffee) should be avoided within the first 24 hours after the surgery, and chewing should be done with the area not included in the operation.

Smoking should not be allowed on the day of surgery and the days following surgery (at least 3 weeks).

During 2 weeks following the surgery, dentures, if any, should be used as little as possible.

The paste placed on the surgery area is to make you comfortable and protect the wound area from irritation (benefits). It prevents pain, facilitates wound healing and allows you to easily continue the activities you are accustomed to. Pat physician deems appropriate 3,7,10.

The lip and cheek should not be lifted to look at the stitches in the operated area. Avoid excessive jaw movements such as laughing, yawning, excessive talking.

Ice should be applied externally on the first day to prevent swelling in the operation area or from reaching much larger sizes.

Surgery Swelling may occur after the operation. The swelling reaches its largest size in the first 48 hours and passes within approximately 7-10 days.

Do not suck the operation area and especially do not spit in order to avoid bleeding.

For post-operative recovery, the prescription written by your doctor must be followed. If you have pain after surgery, you can take painkillers. In this case, aspirin or similar salicylic acid derivative drugs should not be taken.

A feeling of chills and weakness may occur on the first day after the operation. This situation is normal and there is no need to worry. You can continue your daily activities, but sports that require high effort should be avoided.

Appropriate brushing procedures can be applied to the non-operated areas with the recommendation of the doctor.

The mouth should be rinsed after meals.
