What is REM Sleep Behavior Disorder?
In patients with REM sleep behavior disorder, this system is disrupted and patients do the same things they do in their dreams while sleeping in bed. These dreams are often frightening in the form of running away from the dog, fighting, punching, falling off a cliff. Therefore, during sleep of patients; They have movements such as kicking their spouse, punching the wall, falling off the bed, and they wake up while doing these movements.
Although these movements are sometimes very mild, sometimes they can be very advanced and result in injury to the patient and bed partner.
It is known that the frequency of REM sleep behavior disorder increases in Parkinson's patients and some degenerative brain diseases. even years before these diseases show clinical symptoms, it is accepted that people have REM sleep behavior disorder and it is the leading symptom of these diseases.
REM sleep behavior disorder, which can occur without any disease, can be controlled with medication, and this way, by regulating the sleep quality of the person, injuries that may occur to the person and their relatives are prevented.
