Depression!

Today, I wanted to write to you about a subject that we all hear very often and even experience: "I am depressed today." "I don't feel like doing anything, I think I'm depressed."

"It's rainy and the weather is perfect for depression." We all hear it from time to time, right? Or we can say these sentences to those around us. But is this really what depression has become so much about in our daily language? What is depression? How do we know if we are depressed? How can we beat depression?

The dictionary definition of depression is as follows: A mental disorder that manifests itself in the form of decreased sensitivity to stimuli, loss of initiative power and self-confidence, and strengthening of hopelessness and pessimism.

Major depression disorder affects the person almost every day, most of the day. It is found in some parts of the body and this situation can be expressed by the person himself or easily noticed by the people around him. For example, a person may express himself as follows; "I feel empty." "IM so unhappy." Those around him said, "He looks tearful." The person has lost interest in almost everything. Or there is a situation of not enjoying them. There is an increase or decrease in their appetite. One of the biggest symptoms of depression can be insomnia/hypersomnia. Low energy prevents them from doing many things in their lives. They experience difficulty thinking, focusing, or indecisiveness almost every day. People may have thoughts and actions such as thoughts of killing themselves or attempting or planning suicide.

Depression is one of the most common mental disorders. That's why people can easily label themselves as depression. However, the criteria mentioned above are not situations and thoughts that can easily be experienced at any time in daily life. That's why people cannot easily diagnose themselves with depression. This is only the duty of professionals and physicians who deal with mental health. If you think you meet some of these criteria, please seek professional help. Our environment sometimes asks, with all its good intentions, "What is depression? It's all in your head, it will go away if you want it so much." They may make suggestions such as, unfortunately, this may cause a delay in the treatment.
