Canker sores are one or more ulcerated formations of 2-5 mm in diameter that recur from time to time in our mouth. It is also called by different names such as Stomatitis Apthosa, Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis. These small yellow ulcerations with red surroundings are generally seen on the oral mucosa and to a lesser extent on the palate, but are rarely seen on the gums. It is seen especially in young people, it does not discriminate between genders, it lasts for about a week, but it makes life miserable for people when eating and drinking, and it disappears on its own after a week. However, after a while, one or more grains appear again in the same place or in another part of the mouth. Canker sores manifest themselves with a burning sensation 1-2 days before they appear, and then small ulcers appear. If problems occur in the eye and genital areas of the body along with canker sores in the mouth, BEHÇET'S SYNDROME is suspected and eye and dermatology consultation is requested. There is no consensus on what causes canker sores. Viruses, local traumas, stress, immune system disorders, vitamin B 12 deficiency, iron deficiency anemia, fluoride toothpastes, premenstrual tension, birth control pills, migraine, high blood pressure, some allergic foods and the presence of Helicobacter pylori in the stomach have been shown to be causative factors. Sleep apnea. Aphtha is also common in people with diabetes. .
AFT TREATMENT. .
The main goal in aphtha treatment is to increase the patient's comfort of life by reducing pain. For this purpose, ointments or mouthwashes containing local anesthetic can be used. In some severe cases, ointments containing oral corticosteroids are recommended. Some of our patients have anecdotally stated that gargling with black mulberry syrup is beneficial. I think the ellagic acid found in black mulberry may be effective here.
I have been successfully applying the TCA treatment on aphthous ulcers, which dermatologists have also used in peeling for years. Due to the breakdown of the cell membranes of the virus cells in the applied area, a white appearance like parchment paper is formed, the patient's pain disappears instantly, and the aphthous aphtha occurs within an hour or two. gets lost in it. The interesting thing is that there is no recurrence for a long time. In which cases is TCA treatment not applied? This method cannot be used in pregnant and lactating women, in those who have had isotretinoin treatment in the last 6 months, in cases where there is an active infection in the mouth, in cases where general health and nutrition are not good, in cases where the patient has excessive expectations that do not correspond to reality or has psychological problems. .
