With aging, sagging and looseness occur in the arms over the years. It is possible to get rid of sagging and excess skin and fat accumulation on the arms with arm lift surgery, also known as brachioplasty surgery. Apart from aging, overweight people may also experience loose and sagging skin folds on the upper arms following excessive weight loss. In this regard, arm lift surgery is one of the necessary operations, especially for people who lose excessive weight after obesity.
Sometimes liposuction may be recommended in addition to arm lift surgery. If the problem is regional fat, liposuction alone may be a sufficient treatment
- Technical Information About Arm Lift Surgery
The target of the surgery is to remove excess skin and fatty tissue accumulated in the upper arm area. With this surgery, an incision is made starting from the elbow and extending from the inner side of the upper arm to the armpit. In cases where there is little excess and sagging skin and it is located close to the armpit, a shorter incision that can be hidden under the armpit may be sufficient.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. After the surgery, a drain is placed to absorb the accumulated blood and fluid in the area, and this is often removed after 1-2 days. Stitches are removed after a week. Afterwards, a supportive elastic bandage or corset must be applied. Bathing can be done on the 3rd day.
The patient should avoid any pulling, lifting or reaching movements and heavy activities in the early period after the surgery. Heavy movements should be avoided for 1-2 months.
