Stuttering is a deterioration in the fluency and timing of speech that usually occurs before school age and can begin suddenly or gradually. The age at which stuttering appears is approximately 3 years old. Sometimes it can start earlier and sometimes later.

While these are happening, the child purses his mouth, pushes his tongue, squints his eyes and blinks in order to continue speaking. Tries to speak with face, neck, body movements. In this case, if they fail, they avoid speaking the words they are stuck on, speak in short words and do not prefer to talk much. If stuttering continues over time, avoidance of social environments develops. Most of the time, stuttering increases and decreases periodically. Stressor factors play an important role in the increases. We can list a few examples of stressor factors: conflicts between parents, economic problems, birth of a sibling, change of home or school.
Stuttering is approximately 1%. It is seen between 3s. Stuttering is more common in boys than girls. The beginning age begins when children begin to talk. It is generally not expected to start after the age of 10. Since stuttering is genetically inherited, it is more common in close relatives. Stuttering may occur congenitally or later due to psychiatric and neurological problems. The cause of stuttering has not been fully found in studies conducted so far.
Children who are prone to stuttering begin to stutter when they encounter fear or extreme stress. Stuttering may occur in situations that increase stress (e.g. in public or in public). It increases when talking to an unknown person, talking on the phone..) Stuttering, which is congenital until adulthood, resolves spontaneously at a rate of 80%. In case of stuttering that later develops due to psychiatric or neurological problems, the cause must be treated. The main psychiatric problems that cause stuttering are anxiety disorders. In addition, Conflict within the family, parental divorce, and problems at school can be counted among other reasons that may cause stuttering.
Medical treatments and speech therapies are the most effective methods in the treatment of stuttering.
