Reading the Report Card

We have completed the first semester of the academic year. The day has finally come when the efforts made throughout the entire period will be rewarded. Undoubtedly, parents waited for this moment with as much excitement as their children.

So why is the report card so important for parents? Because the report card also evaluates the parents' own parenting skills, it also affects their perception of whether they are "successful/sufficient" or "unsuccessful/inadequate". With a report card full of high grades, the parent is relieved and satisfied with himself, his own attitude, and his child's study behavior. However, when the report card shows low grades, parents feel inadequate in their children's education and think that they have not been successful. When parents stop evaluating themselves based on their children's performances, they can contribute positively to their children's spiritual development and strengthen the communication bond between them.

It is not very healthy for parents' communication with their children to be based solely on academic success. When the basis of communication with the child is about "studying" and "grades", the child will have the perception that "if I study hard and get high grades, my parents will love me". However, the child should know that he is loved unconditionally by his parents, no matter what, so that the child can feel valuable, important, and that his existence is accepted, and develop a positive self-perception.

In families where academic success is at the forefront, a bad report card is pleasant. Since it will not be met and accepted, the child will feel "shame", "guilt", "inadequacy" and "incompetence" etc. experiences emotions more intensely. This can trigger a depressive mood and lead to depression. In addition, in such families, even if the child has good grades and a report card, there may be expectations to do better, such as "all grades should be 100". This may cause the child to experience performance anxiety and develop an anxiety disorder.

In fact, the report card is a road map that shows which courses are successful and which courses need to be studied better. By reading this road map well, the child should be guided in identifying and trying to eliminate the deficiencies, and if necessary, a support should be sought from an expert. Academic success; Many factors such as perception level, attention skills, ability to record, store and remember information, motivation, teaching system and parental attitude can have a positive or negative effect.

If it is known where academic failure originates, an education plan can be created accordingly and The development of academic success can be supported.
