Forgetfulness is a problem we all experience from time to time. However, it does not take long for us to remember what we have forgotten. Most of our forgetfulness is caused by reasons such as fatigue and stressful work environment.

Alzheimer's is a progressive, chronic brain disease that occurs with age and prevents the person from continuing his daily life as before. It is also known as dementia among the public. Problems arise in the patient's thinking.

Alzheimer's disease is mostly seen in people over the age of 65. It is more common in women than in men. As a result of research, it has been found that approximately one in 15 people over the age of 65 has this disease. This disease is seen not only in people over the age of 65, but also in those in their 40s and 50s. However, it is not a common condition compared to other ages.

Although the cause of this disease is not known for certain, it is known to be caused by reasons such as hereditary factors, protein accumulation in the brain, death of brain cells, and disruption of neural transmission. The likelihood of developing the disease increases with age. It occurs in the form of short-term forgetfulness. As the disease begins to progress, the person begins to disrupt his daily activities. He becomes unable to recognize his relatives and asks the same questions again. In this case, the person's psychology deteriorates and he becomes withdrawn. Person; He cannot meet his needs such as walking, running, going to the toilet and lives confined to his bed. After a while, all his care is taken care of by his family.

Symptoms; Forgetfulness affecting daily life (personal names, etc.), planning and calculation difficulties, disruptions in work and home tasks that were previously performed smoothly, confusion about time and place, difficulty speaking and understanding Weight loss, difficulty in judgment and decision-making, withdrawal from social activities, misplacement of belongings, change in character traits and blaming people.

There is no definitive treatment for Alzheimer's disease. The disease does not disappear completely with treatment. Early diagnosis is very important in the treatment of this disease. With the treatment, the symptoms of the disease are reduced. Efforts are made to improve the patient's quality of life. Various medications are used under the supervision of a doctor to cope with the psychological problems that occur with the disease.

The diagnosis must be accepted and the patient must be supported and encouraged in all his activities. From daily life activities; Bathing, toileting, eating, dressing, and regular use of medications must be especially monitored. The more independently he can do these activities, the more his quality of life will be preserved.
