GUM TREATMENT AND ANTIBIOTICS

Gum diseases are basically evaluated in two main groups:

Gingivitis and Periodontitis.

In both cases, microbial diseases occur on the hard tissues of the teeth and between the soft tissues, in the gum spaces of the teeth. Dental plaque layer is the main factor in the formation of diseases. Therefore, successful treatment of gum diseases is carried out by mechanical root surface debridement and surgical methods, as well as effective plaque control. Despite this, in some cases, tissue damage continues and microbial film formation shows the ability to accumulate again. In such cases, systemic or local antibiotic applications can be used to contribute to the treatment. However, a complete recovery is not possible with antibiotics alone. In addition, by not only distracting yourself with antibiotics used based on personal experience or following the recommendations of friends and family, you also give the opportunity for your disease to progress, super infections with opportunistic organisms, and fungal infections. treatment is used only in a few specific clinical  cases:

1- Aggressive Periodontitis

2- Necrotizing Ulcerative  Gingivitis and Periodontitis

3- Acute Periodontal Abscesses                                                                .

4- In order to provide an additional contribution to conventional (traditional) mechanical treatment. .

5- Those with rheumatic fever, those who have had heart valve repair, as a prophylactic against bacteremia. In such patients, the occurrence of bacteremia in the blood and its severity are related to the duration of treatment, the severity of the disease, and the movements in the teeth. Bacteria circulating in the blood can settle on damaged heart valves and cause Acute Bacterial Endocarditis. .

6- They can be used together with surgical treatment to increase the effectiveness of treatment in cases of Refractory and Persistent Periodontitis. .

WHAT ARE THE PRINCIPLES IN ANTIBIOTIC USE? .

Low dose and short-term use should be avoided in order to prevent the formation of resistance in bacteria. The words of people who do not have legal authority should not be taken into account. The use of any antibiotics that are not recommended by a specialist doctor should be avoided without a doctor's prescription. It should not be forgotten that antibiotics cannot correct a poorly performed mechanical treatment and cannot cure the disease alone without mechanical treatment from a doctor. The drugs will be absorbed in the intestine, undergo changes in the liver, affect the inflamed tissues in the gums through blood circulation, and eliminate tartar, gram-, and all anaerobic bacteria under the gums without mechanical removal. This cannot be a reasonable form of treatment. Just as you cannot remove a thorn stuck in your hand with medicine, you cannot destroy the deposits and bacteria accumulated under your gums without mechanically sweeping them.

Bottom line: I'll take that antibiotic and get rid of it. There is no such thing as this disease. The thing to do is to be examined by a PERIODONTIST, have your disease diagnosed, and then follow the exact treatment protocol recommended by your doctor.

Get well soon. I wish you healthy days. .
