Borderline Personality Disorder

Borderline personality disorder; It is a disorder characterized by inconsistency in interpersonal relationships, self-perception, and affect. It usually begins to develop in adolescence and young adulthood. Its prevalence in the community is 2% and it is 3 times more common in women than men. It is defined as a borderline between two conditions called psychosis and neurosis and is therefore also called "Borderline Personality Disorder"

School dropouts, frequent job changes/losses, unplanned pregnancies, physical fights, motor vehicle accidents, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, maintaining relationships that have been damaged situations are common.

In addition to these, alcohol/substance addiction can also be seen in the person. Identity confusion and separation anxiety in these people can create serious problems for them. They complain of a chronic feeling of emptiness, boredom. Psychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety may accompany it.

TREATMENT

Psychotherapy is mainly used in the treatment of borderline personality disorder. Some people may need medication in addition to therapy. The aim of psychotherapy is to help the individual manage their condition and learn coping skills. With therapy, the person may start to feel better and the quality of life may increase. In addition to borderline personality disorder, conditions such as depression or substance abuse can often accompany it. In such cases, it is more appropriate to carry out psychopharmacological treatment and psychotherapy together.
