Life Begins with a Perception

Every moment where a person is present gains meaning

Time passes so quickly…

The boy playing ball on the street yesterday , may be waiting for her grandchildren on the windowsill today. He was once young and handsome, but now perhaps only a few photos can confirm that. Old but washed laundry hanging in front of a ruined house, a red car that once roamed the streets but is now impossible to even drive on the road, a bent waist, stained hands, lost teeth, maybe a cat that shares loneliness...

And The longer we stay in this world, the more we begin to question ourselves. In addition to the incredible blessings of being human, the unbearable burden becomes more evident with every wrinkle added to our face. Each white hair noticed in the mirror tells us how quickly the years pass, as well as our experiences. And as we get older, our internal reckonings and questions intensify.

Why? How? Why? I wish…

So, do the consequences of this inevitable and irreversible process have to be so heavy and demoralizing?

Of course, there will be unavoidable physical symptoms in old age, but isn't it more important how we use our years up to that point?

Do we design those years as years of loneliness and pain, or as old but spiritually young, happy with what we have lived and experienced, satisfied, still attached to life and most importantly peaceful?

And before all this, we need to rethink ourselves, our perception of life, and our place in this world.

We, human beings, are different from animals and plants. We think, feel and can express them verbally. We express ourselves through our behavior. We build civilizations with our intelligence and destroy them with the same intelligence. We work, we earn money, we love, we cheat or are deceived, we feel guilty, then we love again. Therefore, we are separate from all other living things.

And O reader, is there another you?

Maybe you have a twin, maybe you have a twin Someone who looks a lot like. But is there anyone else who is exactly the same as you with their tone of voice, name, body, behavior or life? No, right?

There is no other you in this world. Therefore, reader, you are more valuable than even the most valuable diamond. And this preciousness, this uniqueness brings you a great responsibility. You are responsible for your actions, no one else. Nobody is forcing you to get angry, you get angry. Nobody is forcing you to make that choice, to choose that path. Even though there is a force that knows what choice you will make in the future, you choose it. Because you have a soul, because you have a will, and because you are human; You are responsible for your actions, just like us.

Since we are responsible, then it is a fact that we live life with our perceptions, think, feel and of course act according to them. Our emotions are created by our thoughts, not by current events. However, feelings are not facts. For example, when we invite depression through a set of automatic cognitions, our emotions and behaviors become a vicious cycle that constantly influences each other. We feel unhappy because we believe everything our depressed brain tells us, and this happens in split seconds.

Therefore, we can say that our emotions and thoughts make us who we are, but we are not their slaves. This does not mean that we should suppress all kinds of pain and sadness. Of course, every moment and emotion needs to be experienced, without delay. But we have a great influence on our perception of life, even if we are not aware of it. We must learn to see, not to look, so we can direct our perceptions more easily. And then our words start to become more positive. Then, our feelings about life, our environment and ourselves become more positive, which may return as a smile. Maybe this way we won't miss the trains rushing by before it's too late.

Let's not forget that one day we will all be a thing of the past. Because life and death, past and future are intertwined. Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of our lives. Therefore, we need to make good use of the moment.
