Many children resist going to bed even though it is bedtime, and in many homes, unwanted arguments occur between parents and children almost every evening for this reason. Another common problem is that the child sleeps in the parents' bed even though he has his own bed, especially sleeping with the mother, or the mother going to the child's bed and sleeping together.
It is known that especially a boy sleeping with his mother negatively affects his adult life. . Sleep is a period of time when the individual is alone. For this reason, children should sleep alone in their own beds. Children can sleep in their own rooms starting from 2-3 months.
Preparation for Sleep:
* Before bedtime comes, calm your child down and slow down his movements. Avoid active games and watching violent and horror movies.
* Do not remove the child from his game and take him to bed. This makes it difficult to fall asleep. Beginning 10-15 minutes before bedtime, let them know that bedtime is approaching.
* One of the important factors affecting the transition to sleep is the emotional state of the child. Do not shout, argue or criticize before going to bed. Sad and anxious people have difficulty sleeping.
* Listen to the fears of your child who says "I'm afraid", accept them, be understanding, calm him down, but do not let him come to you and do not sleep next to him, influenced by his fears.
Sleep Pattern:
* Sleep pattern is a series of movements to be done every evening before going to bed. Brushing teeth, putting on pajamas, saying “good night,” reading a book in bed, and going to sleep. If these stages last too long, it makes it difficult to fall asleep.
* Do not let him sleep by lying on his side, stroking his hair or touching you. Sleeping with skin contact makes it difficult for the child to become an individual independent of the mother. Instead, you can give him a toy he likes.
* If your child wants you to stay with him, tell him that you can stay with him for 10 minutes and then you will go inside. During this time, you can sit on a chair or on the floor next to his bed and read him a book or chat. At the end of the period, go inside and spend the time you specified. Try to suck it. Don't let him insist on you staying a little longer.
* If he wakes up from his sleep at night and comes to you, take him back to bed. Sometimes this may occur several times a night. Act the same way every time, without giving up.
