Eye tumors can originate inside or outside the eye. If the tumor inside the eye is close to the visual point or optic nerve, it impairs vision in the early stages. Complaints such as low vision and shadowy vision occur.
Ocular tumors that develop inside the eye, away from the visual point, impair vision in late periods.
In some cases, intraocular tumors may arise from the colored iris layer of the eye. In this case, other eye problems such as pupil deformity, cataracts, and eye pressure may occur.
In some cases, tumors that develop inside the eye may cause fluid accumulation and cause complaints such as flashes of light in the eye, shadowing, and distorted vision. If fluid accumulates in the retina of the eye, vision deteriorates.
Intraocular tumors may also come from cancers outside the eye. For this reason, it should be asked whether there is another tumor or cancer in the patient's body.
Intraocular tumors in children may cause white reflection in the pupil. In this case, it is typical to see a white reflection in the eye instead of a red reflection in photographs taken with flash.
Intraocular tumors can form cataracts if they form behind the eye lens. Cataract also indirectly causes visual impairment in the eye.
Intraocular tumors may cause inflammatory symptoms such as eye redness, pain, and blurred vision. Since intraocular fluid flow is impaired, eye pressure may rise and glaucoma may occur.
Tumors growing inside the eye next to the optic nerve can cause deterioration in the visual field and compression of the optic nerve. Swelling may occur in the optic nerve. In such a case, the optic nerve may be damaged. If early treatment is not applied to these patients, permanent visual impairment or even vision loss may develop.
Tumor vessels within the eye may cause bleeding. If such intraocular bleeding occurs, vision may suddenly deteriorate.
Bleeding within the eye may also occur for other reasons, so patients with eye bleeding should be checked with ultrasound to see if there is a tumor in the eye.
