What is Voice Refinement?
The basic element that creates the perception of thinness and thickness of our voice is the number of vibrations created by our vocal cords during sound production, that is, the fundamental frequency of our voice. In a healthy man, the fundamental frequency of the voice is expected to be below 120 Hz, and in a healthy woman it is expected to be above 150 Hz. In short, as the fundamental frequency of the voice increases, the voice becomes thinner, and as the frequency decreases, the voice becomes thicker.
The factors that determine the fundamental frequency of our voice are the length, thickness and tension of our vocal cords. To make the voice thinner, it is necessary to lengthen the vocal cords, thin them and increase their tension, while to deepen the voice, it is necessary to shorten the vocal cords, thicken them and reduce their tension. Therefore, changes to be made on these 3 parameters will lead to changes in terms of thinness and thickness of the voice.
The need to thin the voice may arise from different reasons. The desire for gender change is one of the main reasons. A new voice, compatible with the changing physical appearance, is undoubtedly the most indispensable element of the new sexual identity desired to be achieved. Having a deep voice is undoubtedly a socially distressing situation for women who had to take hormone therapy during childhood or who had some hormonal problems. Deepening of voice is a common problem in middle-aged women with a history of heavy smoking. Or simply, some women's voices may be naturally deeper when there is no pathological condition.
The common goal for all these groups is to thin the voice. It is possible to thin the voice with some surgical interventions performed today. With these surgical interventions, which are performed through a small incision made both inside the mouth and in the neck, a thinning of the voice is achieved that is effective and meets expectations.
