Suggestions for Families
1. Trust your instincts: You know your child better than anyone, if If you feel that your child is behind compared to his/her peers, be sure to consult a specialist.
2. Be informed: If you have enough information about this special situation of your child, you can help him/her.
3. Act early: “He was attracted to his father and he was like that too.” Do not waste time with statements such as ..”, get support as soon as possible.
4. Be positive: If your child has a diagnosed learning disability, remember that you are not alone; many children in the society face this difficulty and even become successful in their own fields in the future.
5. Do not put the problem at the center of your life and do not let it overshadow the other successful aspects of the child. 6. Be supportive: The duty of the parents is not to treat the learning disability, but to provide the social and emotional support the child needs regarding this situation. 7. Do not keep it a secret: Learning disabilities should not be kept a secret from relatives and friends. If relatives do not know the situation, they may think that the child is lazy or spoiled.
