Dungeon Island

There is no one who has not watched the 2010 movie Dungeon Island, adapted from a novel and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo. To talk a little bit about the movie, Teddy, a police officer, sets out to investigate the disappearance of a patient to Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital, where he is treated for severe psychological cases. Thinking that there is something strange on the island, Teddy begins to examine the studies and the patients who are there. We watch the movie through Teddy's eyes and occasionally experience flashbacks to Teddy's past. We see that Teddy's wife, Dolores, has suffered from a severe depression, and her 3 children drowned in the lake near the house where they lived. Teddy, who suffers from dissociative personality disorder as a result of his traumas, is actually a patient receiving treatment on the island he thought he had come to investigate. A cop who thinks he's back on that island each time by deleting or changing the parts of his past that hurt him. We see that Dolores drowns her 3 children in a lake to spend time with her husband, with the thought that everything will be the same as before in a crisis. In his conversation with Teddy, we can easily understand that he was not himself while performing this action. We can see that Dolores, who had a severe depression, refused treatment because she did not admit that she was depressed. We can talk about a state of depression, sadness, and anxiety. In fact, we use the word depression as a result of every event that we experience, big or small, that makes us feel sad. But to talk about depression, we must first look at our functionality. If our functionality, that is, our difficulties in doing daily tasks, has increased, we stop going to work/school, stop going out and even get out of bed, if we do not enjoy doing activities that used to give us pleasure, and if there is a decrease in interest, if we have bad thoughts all the time, then we can talk about a real depression. . However, it is always better to see a specialist for depression. Because your depression ranges from intense to mild.

Let's take a closer look at Teddy. He has a dissociative identity disorder due to the traumas he experienced during the wars. Andrew Laediss, a criminal he seeks in the movie, is actually an anagram of the name Edward Daniels. So Andrew is none other than Teddy. At this point, we see that Teddy created a different identity for himself as a result of the trauma he experienced with the death of his children and his wife, and closed the memories that were difficult for him to that identity and identified Andrew as his enemy.

Dissociative identity disorder, formerly multiple personality disorder, is the existence of another person or persons other than the individual's own identity. Studies show that childhood traumas and neglect are the basis of this disorder. People with multiple personality disorder have difficulty remembering certain moments. In this movie, the way the disease progresses is linked to a traumatic event.

To sum up, Dungeon Island is a movie where we can examine severe depression and dissociative identity disorder diseases. In addition, we can see post-traumatic stress disorder and the disorders that the side characters have. In addition, this movie, which is very enjoyable to watch, arouses many different emotions in the audience both with its acting and the scenes shot. So what do you think about the movie?
