Physiological Changes During Pregnancy

Many changes occur during pregnancy, both physiological and emotional. It is necessary to understand these changes well and distinguish whether they are normal or abnormal.

Appetite increases as a natural result of the increased nutritional needs during pregnancy. The most visible change during pregnancy is weight gain. 11 - 13 kg during pregnancy. Weight gain is considered normal. During nausea and vomiting, which may start due to hormones in the 4th - 6th weeks of pregnancy, intravenous feeding may be required in the hospital as vomiting negatively affects nutrition.

Since there is an increase in chest circumference during pregnancy, lung capacity is negatively affected by 5%. As a result, difficulties in breathing may occur. There may be restrictions in movements. There may be changes in the circulatory system and in blood volume and cell number. Iron supplements may be required due to changes in blood. Heart palpitations may occur from time to time. Palpitations may begin in the first weeks of pregnancy and reach a maximum level in the 20th - 24th weeks of pregnancy. There may be fluctuations in blood pressure. Especially in the last stages of pregnancy, sleeping on the left side should be avoided to prevent the uterus from compressing the main vein. Since lying on the right side affects blood pressure, this position should be avoided.

There may be enlargement of the urinary tract in the 10th - 12th weeks of pregnancy. Urination becomes more frequent due to the effect of hormones and the growing uterus. Failure to empty the bladder completely increases the risk of urinary tract infection. A small amount of glucose (sugar) may be seen in the urine of pregnant women. Bowel movements may slow down due to the effect of hormones. There may be complaints such as burning in the stomach, as there may be escape from the stomach into the esophagus. Hemorrhoid problems may occur due to constipation and changes in vascular structure. The rate of stone formation in the gallbladder may increase.

During pregnancy, joints may become loose. Weight gain and change in the center of balance may cause waist and back pain.

A dark line may appear in the middle of the abdomen. Color changes on the face, acne, and redness on the palms may be observed. Rapid growth may cause cracks in the abdominal wall and breasts. Enlargement and darkening of the nipples is observed. Vascular vascularity and sensitivity in the breast may increase. Recently, secretion from the nipple � may occur.

Since these changes may occur due to hormonal changes, many of the symptoms return to normal after pregnancy.
