The term frigid, that is, cold, began to be used in the 1950s for women who did not have sexual desire. The term frigid is a misnomer. Because in reality there is no frigid woman. This term is frequently used in daily life and a woman with any sexual problems is called "frigid". However, there are very few women who experience complete sexual reluctance. A woman who experiences sexual reluctance does not feel erotic satisfaction or sexual pleasure. It does not show signs of physiological arousal. It remains dry even if stimulated by its partner. These women do not feel pleasure from sexual stimulation and behavior. Physiologically, they do not show signs of sexual arousal. Although some enjoy touch, many do not feel even the slightest pleasure. Some people hate sexual intercourse. It may take some time for many women to be encouraged to have a sexual response and to be able to experience it easily and naturally. According to the value judgments of the environment in which they grew up and came from, women may think that the only thing to expect from sexuality is to be a wife who fulfills her duty and the mother of the children she longs to give birth to. Fear of pregnancy is one of the important reasons for a woman's frigidity. One of the common problems is that sexuality is described as shameful, sinful and bad when raising girls. As a result, the new house It becomes difficult for a young girl who is sexually abused to adapt to a mature sexual life. A newly married young girl should not be expected to experience sexuality like a woman.

There may be different reasons why a woman does not react to sexual stimulation. The reasons for reluctance may depend on biological, psychological and social factors. About 1% of women actually have a physical problem. The problem of the remaining 99% is completely psychological.

While there may be a decrease in sexual desire from time to time, there may also be an increase. But sexual reluctance that develops due to organic factors is mild at first and becomes evident over time.

Prejudices against sexuality, various myths and fears arising from them, social sexual judgments, individual traumatic experiences, lack of interest in the partner or decreased interest over time. experiences of cheating or being cheated on, fear of being cheated on, fear of death, disease phobias, lack of self-confidence, partner becoming dominant in the relationship, social status concerns, fears of social life, stress and fears related to business life, childhood traumas, traumas of abuse and rape as a child. All kinds of psychological negative factors such as mood disorders, various obsessions, family problems, religious concerns, fear of failure cause sexual reluctance in men. The individual may struggle with these psychological factors himself or may need to seek help.

The basic approach in the treatment of sexual reluctance is to find and eliminate the factors that reduce sexual desire in the person. and ensuring a sexual life style that is compatible with the person's sexual desires. If the cause is due to any disease, psychiatric problems such as depression, or medication use, a cause-specific treatment is applied. Then, treatment of sexual reluctance is addressed.

 

The aim of the treatment of couples who receive sexual therapy is to increase the sexual communication of the couple, to enable them to express their sexual desires more easily, and to remove the restrictions in their sexual lives. At this point, the most important element in treatment is to find and eliminate the factors that hinder sexual desire and to awaken the person's hidden desires and fantasies.
