WISC 4 / Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children 4

WHO ARE GIFTED AND TALENTED CHILDREN?

Gifted or talented children are children who are cognitively ahead of their age group. Being ahead cognitively also enables them to complete physical development ahead of time. Gifted children walk early, talk early, and have early language development compared to their peers. This early cognitive development also affects physical and psychological development. But it does not mean that every child will have the same development. Therefore, while the so-called superior child is cognitively ahead of his peers, he can be psychologically or physically in his own age group.

Superior children are children who ask a lot of questions, are curious, open to learning, and love to explore. Their imagination is very developed, they can be surprisingly idealistic and talk to you like an adult.

Gifted children are also described as "naughty, restless, distracted and hyperactive" by their teachers at school because they have a very fast cognitive processing speed. It cannot be noticed by being tagged with expressions. Therefore, this leads to hindering the potential of children.

Just as early diagnosis is important for diseases, it is very important to recognize them for the lives of children.

There are a number of tests used to recognize gifted children. These tests are applied according to the calculated chronological age of the child.

By adding up all sub-domains of the test, the child's entire scale intelligence score is obtained. But the most important part of the test is not giving the intelligence score. It gives information about which areas the child is good at, which areas he/she is weak or needs support.

Associations established for gifted children carry out activities and activities. Bilsem, a state institution, has activities for specially talented children. Since these processes are generally carried out by the school, information on this subject can be obtained from the school counselor. Some state and private organizations have Children's Universities projects, and these institutions include various activities, educational and educational programs that children can take, and these can be benefited from.

You can also direct the child by observing the areas in which he is talented. For example, if a child is interested in animals, you can help him strengthen his interest and gain more knowledge in this field by reading magazines and taking trips to zoos.
