1-What is Aesthetic Breast Augmentation?
It is a procedure performed to normalize or make underdeveloped or small breasts more attractive and is generally performed with a silicone prosthesis. Silicone prostheses have a slightly hard outer membrane-shaped structure and an inner structure filled with gel-like silicone or salt water. In our country and Europe, plastic surgeons generally prefer silicone gel prostheses. This is because they are superior in achieving breasts that have a natural touch and appearance. At the same time, since it is filled with gel, not salt water, the risk of leakage is very low. However, the patient and the plastic surgeon must decide together which type of prosthesis will be used. After these prostheses, which come in various qualities, shapes and projections, are installed with a short surgery, you can go home the same day or the next day and return to your normal activities within 4-5 days. It is recommended to stay away from sports or similar activities, especially those that use the arms, for 4 weeks, except for walking. It would not be wrong to say that it is the aesthetic procedure with the highest satisfaction rate and degree.
2-Does silicone breast prosthesis cause cancer?
So far, we do not have any proven data that it causes cancer. One in every 100 women in America has a silicone prosthesis, this equates to nearly 3 million women with silicone prosthesis, and yet we can say that it does not cause cancer. It is not a surgery. It does not interfere with diagnostic tests such as mammography and breast ultrasonography. It can stay for life. It can be removed completely or replaced with a new one if desired.
4-Who can have it done?
It wouldn't be wrong if it is said to anyone who wants it. ☺ To increase the normal breast size, those who have completed puberty, those with congenital or acquired small breast size, People who want surgery and who are medically safe from surgery are suitable candidates for breast augmentation surgery.
5-Should the silicone be placed under the muscle or above the muscle?
If the patient is very thin - from the upper part of the breast. If the patient's ribs are visible - the preference should be for the submuscular direction as the prosthesis will be better hidden under the muscle. However, if the fullness of the patient's upper breast edge is sufficient, both application sites are suitable. In the appropriate patient group, the upper part of the prosthesis is placed under the muscle and the lower part is placed on the muscle. It is clear. This is called double-plane placement.
6-Should the silicone prosthesis be drop-shaped or round? Or should it be chipped?
The most important determining factor in making this decision is the shape of the breast and the fullness of the upper part of the breast. Both prosthesis choices give the desired results in a teardrop-shaped breast with sufficient upper part fullness. It would be appropriate to choose a teardrop-shaped prosthesis in round-shaped breasts where the fullness of the upper part of the breast is low. A third type of prosthesis that we started using in Turkey about 1 year ago; It is a CHIP prosthesis
7-Should the prosthesis be rough or smooth-surfaced?
According to research, it has been determined that rough-surfaced prostheses give better results in front of the muscle, that is, under the breast, and smooth-surfaced ones give better results under the muscle. . If a rough prosthesis is considered for a thin patient, it should be placed in a double-plane.
8-Will there be a scar after this surgery?
There are two places we use most frequently to place the prosthesis. These; It is the line where the nipple (the junction of the nipple colored area with the breast skin) and the lower edge of the breast meet the body. The surgical scar is a 4-5cm scar and is very difficult to notice due to the application areas. Apart from these places, there are also application areas such as the armpit and belly button. These entry points are not generally preferred among plastic surgeons.
9-Is breast enlargement possible with fat injection?
Yes, it can be done, but there are still a few problems to overcome. The ultimate in breast enlargement is breast enlargement with fat tissue rich in stem cells. Silicone prostheses are still the most preferred method in the world for breast augmentation. However, patients who do not want to carry foreign objects, are afraid of complications, are afraid of surgery, and are looking for a natural method do not prefer prosthesis surgery. But the real fear in performing this procedure is the possible problems that may arise during oncological follow-up.
