Corona Virus Disease

We call the new disease caused and epidemic by the coronavirus "Corona Virus Disease 2019". In the international medical literature, its name is COVID -2019. COVID is the abbreviation of Corona Virus Disease, which is the English equivalent of Corona Virus Disease. Corona means crown. Coronaviruses, which belong to the Coronaviridae family, are named corona due to the crown-shaped protrusions they have on their surfaces. They are divided into four classes: Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta. Alpha and Beta human, bat-cat-pig etc. They are found in mammals, Gamma birds and fowl, Delta birds and mammals. It can be transmitted from animals to humans and from human to human. Viruses change while living on their hosts, that is, humans or animals. We call this mutation. The more viruses multiply and spread, the faster and more they mutate.

The first coronavirus was identified in the 1960s. The first major and deadly epidemic was with SARS-CoV. SARS are the initials of the English word Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, which means "Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome" in Turkish. SARS-CoV means SARS Corona Virus. It first appeared in Guangdong Province, China, in 2002 and caused an epidemic in 2003. 8300 people fell ill and 800 people died. The mode of transmission occurs both through viruses spread into the air by coughing and sneezing, and through contact with substances contaminated with the secretions or feces of a sick person or animal. It starts with high and persistent fever, stiffness and pain in muscles and joints, followed by a severe dry cough and shortness of breath that can lead to severe respiratory failure.

The second important and deadly coronavirus outbreak was with MERS-CoV. MERS are the initials of the English words "Middle East Respiratory Syndrome". MERS –CoV MERS stands for Coronavirus. It first appeared in Saudi Arabia in 2012. It is spread by people who become infected through close contact, such as caring for camels, as well as people who consume foods such as camel meat and milk. It starts with flu symptoms such as high fever, sore throat, runny nose, and then progresses to symptoms of lower respiratory tract disease such as frequent breathing, inability to breathe deeply, and severe cough. It affects the gastrointestinal system and causes clinical conditions such as diarrhea and kidney failure. This disease affected 2500 people and caused 860 deaths. This means that 34 out of every 100 people who got sick died. It spread from the Arabian Peninsula to other countries and affected the people of many countries from the Far East to Europe and America in 2015.

The virus, which affected the world this year and still continues to kill, called COVID -2019, spread from China's Wuhan province. The most likely source of the disease is wild animals sold at the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market. According to some, the epidemic was caused by eating a bat, according to others by eating a type of anteater with a armor-like shell called a pangolin, or by eating a wild animal that resembles a skunk, and according to some claims, by consuming snake meat. According to our latest information, it was seen in 57 countries and 85000 people got sick and 2804 people died.

COVID-2019, the new type of coronavirus, is transmitted through respiratory tract droplets such as cough-sneezes, as well as on surfaces such as nasal discharge or sputum from the respiratory tract. It is also transmitted when the person who comes into contact with the secretions with his/her hands touches his/her mouth and nose. In the person infected with the virus, the virus remains alive for up to 27 days and multiplies. The most dangerous period is the first 14 days. The risk of death is higher for the elderly than for young people. Currently the mortality rate is around 3%. Considering that the death rate in SARS is 9.6% and the death rate in MERS is 30%, the death rate of COVID-2019 is lower, however, if the number of cases increases in the future, this rate may change. Of course, the treatment-care conditions of the patients and the fact that the patient has diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, cancer and similar debilitating diseases also affect the survival time and therefore the death rate. It is also worth emphasizing this point. The mortality rate of the COVID-2019 virus epidemic is lower than the mortality rate of the SARS and MERS viruses, but the spreading speed and transmission ability of the COVID-2019 virus is much more severe than others, so much so that the virus can even enter the eye.

This virus disease is also similar to other viruses. u Like viruses that cause respiratory diseases, it starts with symptoms such as fever, fatigue and dry cough, but unlike others, runny nose, sneezing and sore throat are less common. About 80% of patients are moderately ill, around 20% of patients need hospital treatment after a week due to progressive respiratory distress, and 14% of patients develop respiratory distress due to severe pneumonia. 5% of all cases require intensive care treatment with respiratory failure, septic shock and multiple organ failure, and 2.2% of patients die.

There is no guaranteed treatment for the disease today, but it has been announced that the virus drug called remdesivir is effective. Its vaccine is under development and has not been put into routine use yet.

What should be done to avoid getting sick?

1-Healthy people should wear a mask, but the mask should completely cover the mouth and nose, so that droplets originating from infected coughs and sneezes are prevented.

2-People with flu-like cough-sneezing-runny nose and similar symptoms should also wear a mask so that the virus does not pass on to their relatives and other patients.

3-Unless it is absolutely necessary, the disease is seen. Travels to countries and even to geographies neighboring those countries should be postponed.

4-Controls at airports should be kept strict, not only airports but also land and sea transportation stations should participate in these measures.

5-Upper respiratory tract infection. People with symptoms should take this situation seriously and consult a doctor.

6- Hands should be kept clean and washed with soap and plenty of water for at least 20-30 seconds. Have you touched money, shaken someone's hand, hugged or kissed someone close to you, taken a bus, train or similar public transportation vehicle or held on to something? Wash your hands with soap at the first opportunity. Never touch your mouth, nose or eyes without washing your hands. If you see someone sneezing into their hand, do not shake hands with them and, if possible, warn them not to sneeze into their hand. Yellow with handshake and acquaintances Suspend your kissing tradition and let it go. Carry alcohol-based hand sanitizer with you wherever you go in case you cannot find soap and water.

        7-Stay away from patients.

8- If your relative is sick and does not need to be hospitalized and is treated at home, approach him with gloves-mask-glasses-apron, but do not stand too close. Frequently disinfect surfaces in the patient's room. Make sure your patient's room is well-ventilated, with plates, spoons, etc. In addition, if possible, the bathroom and toilet should be separated. Laundry should be washed with detergent between 60-90 degrees. Do not accept visitors. Only one person should enter and leave the room, and the whole household should not enter the room.

9- Do not let the patients out of the house until they recover.

10- If the patients are going to cough or sneeze, they should take off their masks and pour their secretions into a container and cover the container.

11- Drink plenty of fluids, eat well, eat plenty of fruits, try to consume organic foods, avoid alcohol, cigarettes, corn syrup, etc. Remember that it weakens immunity, get good sleep, stay away from stuffy places.

12- Consume meat and dairy products by cooking them thoroughly.

13-Head-foot-carob molasses etc. Do not listen to these claims that it does not kill the virus. If you like these foods, you can eat them, but they are not a savior against the virus. Do not lose your money by being fooled by things sold as herbal mixtures and home-made remedies. Cleaning the nose with vinegar water, herbal eye drops, and applying a steam mask to the face will not heal or even protect. The claim that salt water has a protective effect against coronavirus has not been accepted by the World Health Organization, T.R. This is also the opinion of the General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health. Please do not believe such claims and act comfortably, and do not relax your precautions. Gargling with salt water is useful for cleaning the mouth and throat, it also contributes to the healing of pharyngitis (inflammation of the throat), but it does not clean the mouth and throat from the virus and does not kill the virus. that"; “World Famous German Professor Warns”; “So-and-so teacher, So-and-so house Do not deceive yourself by believing in headlines such as "He Waged a War Against Corona Virus with a Made Medicine".
