Fifth disease is a viral rash disease of childhood with Parvovirus B19 as the causative agent.
What is Fifth Disease?
There is no vaccine for Fifth disease, which causes disease in children over the age of 5 more. The disease is not very contagious.
The disease starts with high fever in young babies. In the disease, the clinical picture characterized by a rash in the form of a slapped cheek image on the face, approximately 5-15 days after contact with the patient, is typical. On the 3rd day of the disease, the fever decreases and a widespread lace-like rash with itchy borders appears on the body.
The rash disappears within 1 week. The diagnosis is usually made by clinical observation and there is no typical treatment. Only in children with blood disease, the disease progresses severely.
