It is a disease caused by low secretion of T4 and T3 hormones from the thyroid gland.
WHAT IS OBSERVED IN THESE PEOPLE
Metabolism slows down
Heart rate slows down
Constipation problem may occur
Weight gain is observed
There is an increase in edema (water retention)
Dyslipidemia may occur (Imbalance in blood cholesterol)
Anemia may occur
WHAT TO DO strong>
Weight gain due to slowing down of metabolism should be prevented and weight loss should be ensured.
If drug treatment has been started, attention should be paid to compliance with the treatment.
Drinking water should be increased to prevent edema. Intake of foods rich in iodine, selenium and zinc should be increased
/> B12, Folic acid and iron deficiency anemia should be taken into consideration and vitamin D levels should be monitored
HASHIMOTO WHAT IS IT
It is an inflammatory disease caused by an attack of the body against the Thyroid hormone. In other words, it is an autoimmune disease.
WHAT TO DO
If levothyroxine (LT4) is used, caffeine should be limited as excessive caffeine intake will negatively affect the absorption of the drug.
Metabolic rates are reduced by 15-40%. Weight loss should be targeted in people who are overweight.
Edema is common in these people and plenty of water should be drunk to prevent it.
A gluten-free or low-gluten diet can be tried to reduce and prevent edema formation.
Selenium supplements may be required. For this, a doctor should be consulted
Refined sugar should be avoided
Selenium-Thyroid Relationship
There is an important relationship between selenium and thyroid. Because in insufficient intake of Selenium, T4 and TSH increase and T3 hormone decreases.
Additionally, if Iodine and Selenium deficiency occur together, the severity of the disease increases further.
WHAT TO DO
Fiber consumption should be increased. (vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grain products)
Consumption of goitrogenic foods should be reduced (I shared this as a separate topic)
Use of curcumin, vitamin A, vitamin B12, vitamin D, vitamin E may be beneficial. (Doctor should be consulted)
Water consumption should be increased
WHAT IS GOITR
Normal thyroid gland enlargement for any reason is. The most common cause of goiter is a diet poor in IODINE.
WHAT IS GOIATROGEN
It is a term used for substances or foods that cause goiter disease.
These foods reduce the amount of thyroid hormone in the blood, thus increasing thyroid hormone levels. They cause the gland to work more.
WHAT ARE GOITROGENIC FOODS?
They are foods that cause goiter, that is, they prevent the use of iodine in our body. For this reason, people with goiter should stay away from raw foods and consume cooked ones less frequently.
If you ask what these foods are:
Cabbage
Broccoli
Radish
Beetroot
Peanuts
Soybeans
cauliflower
~IODINE~
Vegetables grown in our lands and fruits have low iodine content
Iodine is stored in the thyroid gland and the thyroid gland produces hormones using iodine.
Hypothyroid patients Iodized salt
Hyperthyroidism patients should use non-iodized salt
Foods containing iodine:
Seafood
Egg
Spinach
Turnip
Chard
Zucchini
Garlic
Dried beans
Milk and dairy products
