Before Military Service-Military Service-Post-Military Service Human Psychology

We frequently follow the news in the media that nearly 140,000 soldiers apply to Psychology and Psychological Counseling services every year due to psychological problems. The state has certain studies and practices on this issue, but this process is a personal process that varies from person to person, and it would be wrong for the individual to expect everything to depend on the state. Issues such as 'Should there be military service?' or 'Should it be left to the individual's choice?' are not my subject. As a psychologist, I will only touch upon issues related to human psychology before military service, during military service and after military service. According to a study conducted in the USA, it was determined that military service caused permanent problems in 10 out of every 100 soldiers. II. There are many cases that have continued since the World War.

Military service is not usual for any of us, and it can be a difficult process for many of us. There is no doubt that the number of soldiers who can say that they did not experience any difficulties during this process is almost non-existent. While it is natural that we have difficulties in this process, it is a much more challenging process for people who have not participated in camp-style activities, are not used to a rule-based life, and have not done certain group sports activities. It is important for mental health to consult a psychologist 1-2 years before performing military service and to make this process suitable for one's own lifestyle with a professional.

The people around the people who transition to the military service, their living standards, in short, The change in their entire way of life, and on top of that, a life they have never lived with such rules before, different individual responsibilities, and the education they receive, which includes a learning based on some suggestions in terms of protecting those behind them, attacking others, and preparing for war. These individuals are taught to hit, to protect those behind them, and to kill if necessary; limits are set and punishments are applied. The fact that they break away from individual life and live as a whole, that they are in the army, that there is no one of the opposite sex in the army, that there are people of the same sex everywhere... All of these can trigger certain sensitivities of the person.

The fact that they enlist in the military at a very young age is also a serious issue. is a factor. It is much more difficult for people who lived dependent on their families until the age of 19-20 and whose families took on many responsibilities instead of them, to enter the military service process. The fact that many of them enlist in the military in their late adolescence creates a serious change and shock effect on people. Adolescence is a normal process that exists in all of our lives. A person experiences some conflicts, tries to choose his own way of life, and has a confused mood in his inner world. The inclusion of military service in this emotional turmoil often triggers or makes the expression of the individual's inner turmoil more evident. It puts the individual in serious confusion.

These negativities can lead to some deteriorations. We see that certain behavioral disorders or diseases that the person was prone to or did not have in his past become more evident during or after military service. He may be injured in a conflict in which he participates, or his friends may be martyred in front of him. The verbal or physical violence inflicted by the commander and the punishments he receives can leave a traumatic situation on the person. Schizophrenic tendencies, which generally occur between the ages of 17 and 21, may coincide with the military service period and schizophrenic thoughts may begin during this period. A person with a tendency to panic attacks may have attacks again during this period or the frequency of attacks may increase. People with bipolar tendencies may become very cheerful, very talkative, and humorous, or conversely, they may become depressed, unhappy, hopeless, and have trouble sleeping. A state of aggression may be observed, which is colloquially described as 'having a crisis'.

Many people experience traumatic events within themselves, do not share them with their environment and try to suppress them. Such situations may carry greater risks and may lead to some behavioral disorders, even after a long time. Before and after the military service, it is necessary to consult a professional, receive psychological support, and, if necessary, correct behavioral disorders and eliminate diseases with psychotherapy and/or medication support. If no precautions are taken, our behavioral disorders can turn into diseases, our diseases can turn into personality disorders, and they can become much more difficult to treat. It is clear. Early diagnosis makes many of them more easily treatable or correctable before they get worse.
