TIC DISORDER

Tic Disorder; It is a neuropsychiatric disorder that occurs involuntarily and is characterized by repetitive motor (such as blinking, moving the head and neck, moving the arm, touching) or sounds (such as clearing the throat, sniffing, sneezing), and is more common especially in childhood and adolescence.< br />     Tics; If it lasts less than 1 year, it is called transient tic disorder, and if it continues for more than 1 year, it is called chronic tic disorder. It is classified as simple (such as just blinking, or just moving your nose) or complex (when more than one motor or vocal tic is present). It can be seen as only a motor or only vocal (vocal) tic; It can also be seen as both a motor and vocal tic. If both motor and vocal tics persist for more than 1 year, the diagnosis is described as Tourette Syndrome and it is more resistant to treatment.
Although tics generally appear around the age of 5-7, it is possible for them to start earlier. There is an increase especially between the ages of 9-10, which can be described as the adolescence period, and it decreases considerably when the 20s are reached. Tics generally appear as temporary tic disorders. Generally, motor tics appear first and are later accompanied by vocal tics. Voice (vocal) tics can make the clinic more negative.
Tics occur involuntarily, especially if they are chronic, there are sensations such as sensitivity and itching in the muscle groups in the relevant area where the tic occurred before; For this reason, children and adolescents who feel that they will have a tic try to suppress it.
Tics can sometimes occur for no reason, but they tend to occur especially in stressful situations or in the presence of other psychiatric disorders (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, OCD, Anxiety). It may occur as another accompanying condition (e.g. depression, depression) or sometimes as a side effect of medications used in treatments.
Tics especially; It increases with fatigue, long-term insomnia, and excited environments and people. Tics; It decreases in relaxed times (summer period, while doing the desired activities or playing games) and when psychological pressure is low. If tics are seen together with other psychiatric disorders, they have a more chronic course. Tic Disorder; It may pass spontaneously without any intervention, but if it continues for more than 6 months, it tends to be permanent.
Families, contrary to popular belief, think that tics are voluntary and prefer to warn their children not to make these movements, which creates more stress in the child and makes the tics worse. also causes an increase. Tics are a condition that can sometimes be stopped involuntarily, but even in this case, it creates a feeling of distress, so it would be appropriate to avoid intervention as much as possible.
