In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), three different diagnostic methods are mainly used to determine the cause of diseases. First, a detailed anamnesis (history) is taken regarding the patient's current complaints. Here, not only the person's complaints about his disease, but also his complaints about his whole body are questioned. Because TCM approaches diseases from a holistic perspective. While in Western medicine, the focus is on patients' complaints about their illness, in Chinese medicine, all complaints related to the current disease are questioned. For example, the toilet habits, constipation or diarrhea of a person with a skin disease may be very important in planning the treatment.
Secondly, the patient's pulse is examined. In TCM, information about the 12 meridians in our body can be obtained by taking the pulse from both wrists. Deep and superficial pulses on the right and left wrists guide us in planning the treatment.
The third method used in the diagnosis of diseases is tongue examination. The color and size of the patient's tongue, whether there are any coatings on it, whether there are tooth marks or not are very important for us acupuncturists.
Another method used in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in Traditional Chinese Medicine is ear acupuncture. According to this method, there are areas in each person's ear that correspond to all organs and systems in their body. Depending on the diseases, electrical resistance changes occur in the relevant areas of our ear. Based on this theory, devices that detect changes in electrical resistance in our ears have been developed. .
At the end, all the data obtained from the patient are combined and the acupuncture protocol to be used in the acupuncture treatment is created.
