CANCER PATIENT; HIDDEN ENEMY, SNEAKY CAUSE OF DEATH: PULMONARY EMBOLI

There are approximately 200 types of cancer, and most of them are not fatal. The possibility of a cancer being fatal is often possible when it reaches its final stage. The most basic complication that breaks this exception is "Pulmonary Embolism".
Pulmonary (lung) embolism; It is a fatal disease that occurs as a result of one or more arteries of the lung being blocked by a clot. It is a disease that is frequently encountered but goes unnoticed and therefore difficult to diagnose.
Approximately 15% of cancer patients die from pulmonary embolism.
While pulmonary embolism is seen in 13% of non-cancer patients and is fatal in 8%, its incidence is 17% in cancer patients, and 14% of them end in death.
Early diagnosis saves lives in pulmonary embolism as in cancer.
I would like to share with you a patient story;
Our patient named S.O had an operation for gynecological diseases and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. At the end of the patient's 2-3 week hospital stay, his treatments were arranged and he was discharged. In the first week of his discharge, he applied to a hospital emergency room with complaints of severe chest pain, feeling faint, and difficulty breathing, which started at night. There, heart problems were considered and treatment was started accordingly. However, the patient's problems increase within hours and he applies to us as there is no improvement in his treatment. The examinations reveal an embolism in the lung. In this patient, the embolism was in a very lethal state, almost completely blocking the pulmonary artery. Our patient's imminent surgery posed a great risk for the treatment we planned to give. However, the patient had no other choice. As a result, with the treatment given, all the patient's complaints resolved within 24 hours.
Doubt saves life, if you are a cancer patient, do not neglect it, consult your doctor if you have sudden onset of chest and back pain, sudden onset of shortness of breath that you cannot understand, or fainting.
