Covid-19, which is accepted as a pandemic by the World Health Organization, has been a process that affects our daily life, physical activity levels, eating habits and psychological state during the period we spend at home and during the return to social life. In the process we spend at home, our daily routine life has become different, and emotional eating behavior tendencies have increased as a result of staying at home for a long time. While energy consumption increased rapidly, the level of energy expenditure decreased and as a result of this disturbed balance, problems such as rapid weight gain and abdominal adiposity emerged. Especially with the coming of the summer season, individuals turned to diet programs to lose weight quickly in order to get rid of the excess weight gained during the quarantine process. However, very low calorie diets, uniform nutrition programs, inadequate and unbalanced nutrition programs cause unhealthy results in individuals. As a result of these programs; Muscle and water losses occur rapidly without a change in the waist circumference and fat ratio, which we call the abdominal region. It is known that it causes conditions that reduce the body resistance of individuals and pave the way for different chronic diseases in the future.
Unhealthy and non-personalized diet programs for rapid weight loss are unfortunately short-term. However, popular or low-calorie nutrition programs cause a decrease in muscle and water loss, not in the amount of fat, when they are not specially programmed for you. Diet programs that promise rapid weight loss in a short time; It can slow down your metabolism. Long-term low calorie intake creates a stress environment in the body, and with it, metabolism can slow down. At the same time, with the metabolism slowing down, the body can use muscle mass as fuel to maintain fat stores. After applying such diet programs, a body that is weakened but has an increased fat ratio can be encountered. When such diets are applied in the long term; It can cause problems such as organ damage, hair loss, anemia, gallstones, menstrual irregularities, depression. Sudden calorie reduction, especially since organs with high energy needs such as kidney, liver and brain need regular carbohydrate intake as organ damage. The energy restricted in them causes irreversible damage to these organs. However, possible diseases include stroke, heart attack and kidney failure. According to the World Health Organization's guide to healthy living and weight control, a healthy weight loss program should aim to lose 2 to 4 kilograms per month with age- and individual-specific adjustments.
