MACULA HOLE

MACULA HOLE OR MACULAR HALL IS A SURPRISE PUNCH OCCURRED IN THE MACULA AREA, WHICH IS THE CENTER OF THE RETINA, THE VISUAL LAYER OF THE EYE.

IT OFTEN HAPPENS SPONTANEOUSLY, WITHOUT ANY REASON. IT IS MORE SEEN AFTER THE AGE OF 55-60. RARELY, IT MAY OCCUR AFTER TRAUMA, WHICH OCCURS THE EYE.

SOME TIME BEFORE THE FORMATION OF A MACULA HOLE, THE PATIENT MAY HAVE COMPLAINTS SUCH AS A SLIGHT DECREASE IN VISION, BOWLING IN STRAIGHT LINES, SEEING OBJECTS SMALLER OR BIGGER THAN THEY ARE. THE REASON FOR THIS IS THE STRUCTURES AND CYST FORMATION APPLIED BY THE VITREOUS FLUID TO THE MACULA.

AFTER A MACULA HOLE FORMS, A PERMANENT BLIND SPOT FORMS IN THE VISUAL CENTER.

THE PATIENT SEES DARKNESS WHERE HE LOOKS AT. VIRTUAL VISION IS PRESERVED.

As the macular hole enlarges, this blind spot also enlarges over time.

DURING THE TREATMENT, VITRECTOMY SURGERY IS APPLIED TO THE PATIENT. IT IS A SEAMLESS SURGERY. BY ENTERING THE EYE THROUGH SMALL HOLES, LIKE NEEDLES INSERTED INTO A BALL, THE VITREUS FLUID IS CLEANED AND AT THE END OF THE SURGERY, AN AIR-LIKE GAS IS PUT INTO THE EYE. THE HOLE CLOSES DUE TO THE SURFACE TENSION EFFECT OF THE GAS.

THE CHANCE OF SUCCESS IS VERY HIGH IN EARLY INTERVENTIONS, I.E. WHEN THE MACULA HOLE IS FRESH.
