The Most Common Health Problem of Our Age: Obesity

Obesity or the condition medically referred to as Obesity; According to the definition of the World Health Organization, it is the accumulation of excessive fat in the body to the extent that it impairs health. According to the definition of the US National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, obesity is a complex, multi-causal and chronic disease resulting from the interaction of heredity and environmental conditions. In both definitions, obesity is mentioned as a disease. Again, Turkish Public Health Institution defines obesity as; It is diagnosed as 'body weight is more than it should be'. In this case, the proportion of fat tissue has increased compared to other tissues. The obesity rate in the world has increased by 33% in the last 10 years. Obesity, which is expected to be the most important health problem in the world within 20 years, causes or paves the way for many diseases. Diseases such as Metabolic Syndrome, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome are the most common diseases.

Obesity is detected by methods such as clinical examinations, taking height and weight measurements and comparing them with relevant standards, and measuring skin thickness. p>

A person's body weight is calculated using standard values related to body mass index.

Body Mass Index (BMI) = Body Weight (kg) / Height (m²)

BMI (kg/ m²) <19.9 Underweight

20.0-24.9 Normal

25.0-29.9 Slightly obese

>30.0 Obese

Now Nowadays, obesity is considered a disease. Because obesity affects the health of the individual in various aspects.

For this reason, individuals above the limits in these indexes need to lose their excess weight.

Why do we gain weight and some parts of the body become more fat?

Obesity is the result of a long-lasting energy imbalance.

Main reasons for this:

  • Overeating,

  • Lack of physical movements,

  • Psychological disorders,

  • Metabolic and hormonal disorders.

  • The most common of these is excessive and unbalanced nutrition. Genetic factors and physical inactivity are important factors in both obesity and regional fatness.

Studies show that among children of normal parents, While obesity is 8-9%, it has been stated that the prevalence of obesity in children increases to 40% when one of the parents is obese, and to 80% when both parents are obese. However, it is thought that this situation is due to the family's eating habits rather than a hereditary variability. The high energy value of home-cooked meals generally causes all members of the family to consume excessive energy. Generally, inactive people eat as much as active people. In this case, the energy balance of inactive people is disrupted. Although obese people are rarely seen among heavy workers, the frequent occurrence of obesity in sedentary civil servants and housewives clearly shows the effect of physical movements on body weight.

Obesity; With the influence of all these factors and genetic characteristics, it can manifest itself as widespread fat in the body and excessive accumulation in some body parts.

    What does regional slimming mean?

Regional slimming These are methods used to reduce fat accumulated in certain parts of the body such as the belly, waist and hips. As I mentioned before, depending on the genetic structure of individuals, their nutritional habits and movement regimes, fat is not distributed evenly throughout the body and may accumulate in certain areas.

Due to the resistant membrane surrounding fat cells and strong bonds between cells, this type of fat accumulates in areas. It can only be thinned to a certain point with diet and exercise.

Regional slimming methods aim to change the fat from solid to liquid by breaking and shrinking the fat cells. As a result of the regional slimming application performed in the needed area, the liquefied fats join the body circulation system and become burnt by the body. As a result of successful application, it is observed that the treated area becomes thinner and the body circumference decreases. Fats that have liquefied and entered the circulatory system can be easily converted into energy through diet and exercise methods.

What can be done for postpartum fat in the abdominal area and waist area? What kind of program do you follow?

Many people lose their excess weight after giving birth. Even if he does, he applies to us stating that he cannot lose the weight in his abdomen and waist area. We apply a combined method for fat accumulated both after birth and for other reasons. We apply both cold and hot fat fractionation methods. In this way, we have the opportunity to get more effective and faster results. Additionally, when necessary, we support these methods with additional methods such as vacuum drainage and pressotherapy. These programs are determined for each individual according to their structure and needs. This is the first and, in my opinion, the most important part of the treatment. A physician with sufficient experience in this field should be preferred. Because if you do not determine the problem and solution correctly, it will be impossible to get results. Devices to be selected for second stage applications. Of course, your devices must be suitable and sufficient for these. Unfortunately, there are many devices on the market whose effectiveness has not been proven. Therefore, be sure to obtain information about the devices at the center you will apply to.

In conclusion, do not forget that weight loss is the first step towards a healthy life.
