When and Which Interventions Should Be Done for Renal Masses?

While kidney cysts do not generally cause a problem throughout life, masses, which are another different structure seen in the kidneys, should not be neglected. However, if the patient has a grade 4 cyst or a mass at risk of tumor, further examination methods need to be performed and a treatment decision must be made. When the decision for surgery is made, such operations can now be performed laparoscopically or robotically. In very small masses (under 3 cm), even if there is a suspicion of tumor, in some cases it can be removed and monitored. Another treatment alternative in recent years for kidney masses smaller than 3 centimeters is the destruction of tumor cells using energy sources. The tumor mass is destroyed by using various heat sources such as Microwave, Radiofrequency and Cryoablation methods. The treatment applied in recent years, especially for liver tumors, can also be performed for kidney masses without damaging kidney functions. This treatment is especially for the elderly, lung or heart etc. It is applied to patients who cannot tolerate surgery due to problems. It can also be tried on people at a younger age who do not want to undergo surgery. The measurement of the mass, its size, content and the general condition of the patient are combined and the patient is informed about which one to apply. In this respect, it is important to know that there is such a treatment alternative.”

Kidney tumors become aggressive if they spread

Kidney tumors can have an aggressive nature. If it metastasizes, it can become more aggressive. It most commonly metastasizes to lymph nodes, lungs and bones. However, when diagnosed and removed within the kidney, it ceases to be a problem almost for life. Once outside the kidney, it has an aggressive nature, but we can say that it is just as easy to treat inside the kidney. That's why it's so important to catch it within the kidney.
