Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) surgery; It is a surgery performed to eliminate the sagging and loose appearance caused by excess skin and fat in the abdominal area.

This surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the surgery may vary between 2-6 hours depending on the extent of the procedure to be performed, whether additional procedures (liposuction, muscle repair, etc.) are required and the size of the abdomen. The basic procedure in surgery is to remove excess skin. To do this, the skin of the abdomen is cut and lifted up to the ribs, almost like a kitchen apron, and the excess is removed. This surgery can also be performed as mini-abdominoplasty surgery in suitable patients. The difference of mini-abdominoplasty is that the procedure is more limited and the belly button is not displaced.

To obtain a satisfactory result, liposuction and muscle repair are usually added to the abdominoplasty surgery. The purpose of liposuction is to thin the thickness of the subcutaneous fat tissue on the anterior abdominal wall and ensure better results of the surgery.

Another additional procedure performed with abdominoplasty is muscle repair. In patients who gain or lose excessive weight or give birth, the gap between the two muscles called the rectus abdominis muscle may be opened. This is called rectus diastasis. This repair should also be performed in order for the abdomen to look tight and for the results to be long-term.

After this surgery, a scar will remain in the lower abdomen, between the protrusions of both pelvises, inside the underwear. Drains are usually removed and placed 1-2 days after the surgery.

After abdominoplasty, the patient is usually discharged from the hospital the next day. After this surgery, a corset is used continuously for the first 3 weeks and in the evenings for the second 3 weeks. To facilitate healing after surgery, the patient walks slightly bent from the waist for 3-5 days. After the surgery, bed rest is recommended as much as possible, especially for the first 5-7 days. After a week, if there are no adverse conditions, a bath can be taken.

If the patient is not working in a physical job, he can start working after 3 weeks, but if he is working in a job that requires physical activity, he can start working after about 6 weeks.
