Implant Treatment

Implant: It is an artificial root application performed to restore the aesthetics and function caused by missing teeth or teeth to individuals who have experienced tooth loss due to various reasons.

The surface consists of titanium, which has the highest level of compatibility with soft tissue and bone. . It is cylindrical in shape and comes in different lengths and diameters. The application is performed surgically in a single session and under local anesthesia. Implant application is decided after the patient is evaluated in terms of bone suitability, systemic diseases, social habits and hygiene habits before the application. As a result of various x-rays taken, the dimensions of the implant to be applied are decided. There is a waiting period of 3-4 months after the application. At the end of this period, implant-supported prosthesis construction is started.

Ideally, the implant will last 6-10 days following tooth extraction, depending on the healing potential of the bone. weeks should be done. As this period increases, as a result of the resorption of the bone in the place of the extracted tooth, implant application in the future can only be done after the bone is brought to a sufficient level as a result of extra surgical procedures. In addition, during this period, the bending of the neighboring teeth towards the missing tooth space negatively affects the implant application and aesthetics.

In which cases is the implant applied?

Single tooth missing: With the classical method, a single tooth missing can be replaced by two adjacent teeth. It can be removed by abrading the individual teeth in a comic shape and constructing a 3-member bridge supported by them. In this case, a more aesthetic and functional treatment can be achieved with a single implant, without touching the adjacent teeth.

Complete toothlessness (total toothlessness): The total prosthesis (palate) applied in case of total toothlessness has the weakest retention in the mouth. It is a type of prosthesis. The fact that it moves to various degrees during chewing and speaking negatively affects patient comfort. In patients with sufficient bone levels, at least 5-6 implants are applied to each jaw and a fixed prosthesis is made on top of them. Secondly, in cases where bone levels are not good, implants are applied to the anterior region and a removable prosthesis supporting these implants is made.

Jaws with toothless back ends: This makes bridge construction impossible. Foam in missing teeth In order to perform the procedure, the patient's own tooth must be present at the beginning and end of the missing part. For this reason, a removable prosthesis (half palate) is applied to toothless jaws. In patients who refuse to use removable dentures, fixed dentures can be made by applying implants to the toothless areas.

In cases of long edentulism: Even if the patient has natural teeth at the beginning and end of the toothless area, a bridge cannot be applied because it will be too long. Because there is a danger of breaking and stretching in long bridges. In addition, the lifespan of the teeth to be used as bridge pillars will be shortened as they will be overloaded. In such cases, a more functional and long-lasting prosthesis can be made by applying an implant to a long gap.

What situations prevent implant application?

Drugs prescribed by the physician should be used regularly.

>The tampon placed on the application area should be kept in the mouth for approximately 1 hour.

Starting immediately after the operation, a cold compress should be applied, this will prevent swelling.

Smoking, alcohol, carbonated and acidic drinks should be avoided at least. It should be avoided for 1 week.

Nutrition should be with warm and soft foods for the first few days.

Trying to look at the operation area by pulling the cheek after the operation will cause bleeding as a result of stretching of the stitches and impaired wound healing.

Bleeding in the form of leakage is normal for the first day. It is a wrong practice to put cotton or napkins on the area to stop the bleeding. If bleeding becomes severe, a physician should be consulted.

Since there is a risk of bleeding, it should be preferred to sleep on a higher pillow for the first night.

Mouthwash can be used 2 days after the operation.

The teeth around the operation should be cleaned. Brushing should not be neglected, bacteria accumulated here negatively affects healing. Brushing should be done gently and with softer brushes for 1 week.

Stitches should be removed 1 week after the operation.

When is an implant-supported prosthesis made?

After the implant is placed, the process of fusing the implant with the bone, which we call osseointegration, begins. During this process, the space between the screw-shaped implant threads is filled with bone cells. It takes approximately 3 months for the lower jaw and 5 months for the upper jaw to complete this process. The fact that the process is longer in the upper jaw is due to the spongy structure of the bone. Since the lower jaw bone is denser, the process is shorter. If the implant area remains empty during the osseointegration process and causes aesthetic and functional discomfort to the patient, temporary teeth can be made. After the completion of the process is checked with an x-ray, the prosthesis is made.
