When we look at its essence, stroke appears as a cardiovascular disease. In cases that last longer than 24 hours, life-threatening situations usually occur. The first moments of paralysis are extremely important. The interventions to be made when the paralysis begins are the determinants of the disorders that will occur due to the paralysis. Therefore, the earlier intervention is made, the less harm patients will suffer. During a stroke, blockage occurs in the vessels that feed the brain cells and carry oxygen to these cells. As a result of this blockage, very sensitive brain cells begin to die rapidly. A small number of cell losses means fewer problems in the future.
What are the Risk Groups for Stroke?
The risk groups of stroke are similar to heart diseases. Those with high blood pressure, diabetes, smokers, those who are obese, and those with high cholesterol are also among those prone to stroke. Stroke is most common in people with serious heart disease. Conditions that last longer than 24 hours are called strokes. Situations that last less than 24 hours are called transient ischemic attacks. Transient ischemic attacks generally last 5-10 minutes. However, a significant portion of patients who have experienced a transient ischemic attack experience a stroke within 1 year after the ischemic attack. For this reason, people who have had a transient ischemic attack need to be more careful.
Paralysis Treatment
There is no special treatment for paralysis. Nowadays, clot dissolving treatment is applied in occlusive strokes. This application can be performed within the first 4.5 hours after the stroke occurs. For this reason, in cases of loss of sensation, speech, vision impairment, imbalance, difficulty in walking and confusion, patients should go to the nearest hospital or health institution without delay. In this way, the clot dissolving treatment to be applied will minimize the problems caused by stroke. The most common discomfort that occurs after a stroke is weakness in one half of the body. Apart from this, speech difficulties, memory disorders, depression or mood disorders may be observed. In the first 5 years of someone who has a stroke The risk of having a stroke again is around 25%.
