What are the Symptoms of Birth?

Mothers-to-be who can't wait to hold their baby in their arms; They can often think that birth is approaching due to many symptoms. However, not every symptom is a sign that birth is approaching. So, what symptoms should you pay attention to? Here are the symptoms that herald the approaching birth...

Mothers-to-be who are about to give birth need to know what the symptoms are and after which week to pay attention to the symptoms. Under normal circumstances, birth occurs between the 38th and 40th weeks. However, sometimes it may occur earlier or sometimes later than these weeks.

Decrease in Urination

Pregnant women urinate frequently. The reason for this is that the baby's head settles into the birth canal. When the baby's head is placed in the birth canal, the uterus puts pressure on the bladder. However, as birth approaches, the uterus goes down and stops pressing on the bladder. When there is no pressure, urine output decreases. For those giving birth for the first time, this situation is felt 1 or 2 weeks before. However, for expectant mothers who will give birth for the second time, the same situation occurs 1 day before.

Severe Pain

Pains increase even more in the last weeks of pregnancy. Pain felt especially in the groin area and lower abdomen is known as false pain and goes away with rest. However, as birth approaches, the pain changes shape. It begins to be felt more severely in the back and abdomen. Pains that begin with the approach of birth are regular and do not go away with rest, unlike pseudo-pains. If the frequency of pain is every 5 minutes, it would be beneficial to see a doctor.

Engagement Bleeding

During pregnancy, the cervix is closed with a mushy substance similar to jelly, which prevents the transmission of infections to both the uterus and the baby. However, as labor contractions increase and the cervix dilates, that substance is expelled. The expectant mother may notice engagement bleeding as a bloody/brown or pink discharge.

Breaking of water

The most common sign of birth is the breaking of water; It occurs when the sac filled with amniotic fluid containing the baby ruptures as a result of pain and contractions. If this sac is ruptured in a small way, the expectant mother will use it as a sign of urinary leakage. It may feel like it's tearing, but when the tear is large, the fluid that flows is as if it were pouring out of a glass. In both cases, the mother must go to the hospital.
