The Flashy Term of Modern Times: Stress

In today's world, stress has become so widely used that we hear this word even from the mouths of young children. We often encounter sentences such as 'I am very stressed today', 'This presentation caused me extreme stress'. So, is stress really a situation that we all need to avoid?

Our answer is no. On the contrary, stress is very necessary for our lives. It is even mentioned as an alarm system that helps us survive stress. The basic component of stress involves encountering or the possibility of encountering an unpleasant situation.

Body Reaction During Stress

The organism that encounters an unpleasant or threatening situation gives a stress response. This response has developed to activate the body and survive. Thanks to the stress response when faced with a threat, we look for ways to cope with the threat. This stress response comes in handy when you encounter a bear. When faced with a bear, our body goes into alarm mode and can survive by finding the healthiest way to fight the bear. But the stressors of today's life are quite different from the bear situation.

Changing Sources of Stress in Today's World

The issues that cause us stress are now bills to be paid at the end of the month, exams prepared for years and problems in business life. It's incredible competition. We now have stressors that, although not as deadly as a bear, can become longer-lasting and chronic. The alarm system that is healthy for us begins to harm us when it becomes permanent. If our fathers who are waiting for the end of the month feel constantly on alert, this becomes very unhealthy for their body. Because physical symptoms such as lowering blood pressure and faster heart beating while in an alert state can exhaust the body for a long time. Or, the increasing stress levels of teacher candidates who have been preparing for KPSS for years due to their worries about the future may become a significant threat to their physical and psychological health.

Who are about to get rid of a threat. When the alarm system becomes chronic, it itself becomes a threat to us.

So what can we do?

  ;

There are many ways to cope with stress. Breathing and meditation exercises will lead to instant and short-term relief on stress levels.

But there is a practical way that will allow us to control stress in the long term. Uncertain situations increase stress. In this case, setting short-term goals and making clear and specific plans in the work you do will reduce your feeling of stress.

Stress is an integral dynamic for everyone, from 7 to 70. Therefore, the best strategy is to try to deal with it by confronting it rather than fighting it.
