In recent years, with the increase in imaging methods such as ultrasound, tomography and MRI, the number of kidney tumors detected early has increased. Kidney tumor is a disease whose treatment is very successful when it is detected early, but its course is very bad when it metastasizes (spreads). For this reason, it is important to have routine checks (ultrasound) in people over the age of 40.
Alternatives in the treatment of kidney tumors:
1.Surgery: Radical nephrectomy (total removal of the kidney)
>Kidney-sparing surgery (removal of the tumor only)
2.Focal treatments: Cryotherapy, HIFU, etc.
3.Follow-up
The most successful and golden treatment for early stage kidney tumors. The treatments that we can call standard are surgical methods. While radical nephrectomy was the standard in the past, in the light of recent developments, kidney-sparing methods have become standard, especially in smaller and appropriately located tumors (growing outside the kidney). These surgeries are performed in experienced centers with closed methods (laparoscopic or robotic). Thus, they eliminate the disadvantages of open surgery such as pain, long hospital stay and major surgery scars.
Monitoring stands out as an alternative, especially in patients who are very old and who are not suitable for anesthesia (anesthesia) with tumors smaller than 3cm.
