Early Intervention in Strokes Saves Lives

Neurology Department Specialist Assoc. Dr. Nergiz Hüseyinoğlu said that early intervention is important in the disease known as stroke, which has been on the agenda of the media lately due to Deniz Baykal and Kadir İnanır.

Stroke is a clinical condition that occurs when clots form or break in the vessels leading to the brain. Stating that there is a table, Assoc. Dr. Hüseyinoğlu: When we say stroke, we should not understand this alone. There is also a brain hemorrhage here. Cerebral hemorrhage is the blood flow into the brain or the membranes of the brain as a result of vascular rupture. "In general, 80 percent of strokes in the brain are ischemic strokes, that is, clinical conditions caused by impaired blood flow as a result of vascular occlusion," he said.

There are many causes

There are many causes of vascular occlusions that cause the disease. Stating that it may be possible, Assoc. Dr. Hüseyinoğlu said, “The causes of vascular occlusion can be major factors such as gender, age, weight, blood pressure diseases, diabetes, obesity and smoking; Other factors may include sleep apnea, high levels of cholesterol and fat in the blood, and a sedentary lifestyle. However, some patients may be genetically prone to blood clots and may have a stroke even at a young age. Or, obstetric pills used by women can increase blood clotting and cause stroke. "In heart rhythm disturbances, heart failure or after a heart attack, blood clots can form, which can lead to stroke," he said.

It is important to listen to the symptoms

Assoc. Dr. Hüseyinoğlu listed the symptoms of the disease, which starts from a tendency to light sleep and progresses to coma, as follows:

“Right or left-sided numbness, loss of strength, in other words, partial paralysis in popular parlance, may occur. Some patients may have speech and vision disorders. In some patients, not one but several of these findings may appear together. As soon as such situations are noticed by the patient's relatives, they should immediately apply to the hospital or call the 112 emergency line.”

Assoc. Dr. Hüseyinoğlu added that if intervention is made within the first 6 hours, the treatment will be easier and the patient's chance of survival will increase.
