To examine the arm and leg veins, the area starting from the shoulder and hip level to the hand and
ankle is scanned. The widths of the veins are measured in these areas. With this
examination, stenosis, blockages, clot formation and insufficiencies in the veins
are evaluated.
This examination is most commonly performed on varicose vein patients. It is necessary to perform a detailed color Doppler ultrasound
in patients with varicose veins. First of all, the examination can begin in a lying position in order to understand the vascular anatomy.
However, the patient must be evaluated in an outpatient position in terms of venous insufficiency.
Insufficiency evaluations that are not performed on an outpatient basis will not give accurate results and
will lead to incorrect treatments. In color Doppler examination, in addition to superficially located varicose veins, deep veins between the muscle layers are also examined. If there is no problem in the deep veins, superficially located varicose veins can be treated directly. However, if there is a problem in the deep
veins, if the superficial veins are treated without treatment, superficial varicose veins will recur after a short time. Therefore, problems related to deep veins should be treated first. Interventional
radiological varicose vein treatments are explained in the relevant section.
The condition we call venous thrombosis is the formation of clot
that causes obstruction in the veins. In this case, there may be increased heat, redness and pain in the leg. In this case, color Doppler ultrasound examination should be performed urgently. From this examination, it can be understood in which vessels the clot has formed, how much space it occupies and how long ago it formed. If the clot is new (acute stage), the clot in the vein can be drained. If it is a clot in the subacute stage
medical treatment is required.
