TEETH WHITENING

If the discoloration of your teeth is what restricts your laughter between your lips, you can get rid of it in just a few days. The whitening process involves applying a specially prepared gel onto the teeth and, in most techniques, accelerating the reaction with a light source. The mechanism of the whitening process is an oxidation-reduction reaction. The substances used release oxygen. Substances that cause discoloration in the teeth are replaced by colorless substances and whitening occurs.

Environmental factors: Lack of brushing, diet-related chromogens, bacterial plaque on the tooth surface, exposure of the tooth to trauma, coloring foods such as tea-coffee-red wine.

Occupational reasons: Metallic salts

Genetic factors: Genetically dark tooth color, antibiotics used during childhood, amelogenesis. Dental tissue diseases such as imperfecta-dentinogenesis, imperfecta-fluorosis.

Previous dental treatments: Discolorations due to root canal treatments and amalgam fillings.

Before the whitening process, any decay or gingival recession in the teeth to be whitened. There should be no gingivitis or wear on the teeth. In such cases, all necessary treatments are performed first and then the whitening process is started. The cause of the discoloration must be determined before the whitening process. Which type of whitening will be applied is chosen accordingly.

It is applied to teeth that have lost their vitality. If the teeth have been previously exposed to trauma or discoloration has occurred after root canal treatment, whitening is achieved by placing gel inside the teeth. 35% perhydrol root canal treatment has been applied. It is placed on the tooth and replaced periodically, and the procedure is terminated when sufficient whiteness is achieved.

It is applied by activating the whitening paste applied to the teeth by the physician with a light source. The applied gel is a superoxol caustic substance. For this reason, reversible staining may occur in the surrounding soft tissues. For this reason, before starting the procedure, the lips are isolated and the gums are covered with a special barrier that hardens with light. In whitening sessions performed with a normal light device, sessions last approximately 30-45 minutes and the result can be observed immediately. The duration of the treatment will not cause damage to the teeth. It depends on the doctor and the degree of whiteness desired by the patient. Approximately 3 sessions are performed 2 days apart.

In cases where the light device is laser, the result is obtained in one session, which lasts approximately 1 hour. The whitening process is completed in one session. It has no effect on fillings and coatings. Therefore, they must be renewed according to the obtained tooth color. The whitening process is a reversible process depending on time and the patient's habits. Therefore, it must be renewed at regular intervals.

This procedure, which is very simple to perform by the patient and the physician, has no complications in the long term. Therefore, instead of hiding our smile, we all have the right to show off a sparkling smile that can be achieved with such an easy process.
