Individuals encounter various situations in daily life. Some of these situations express emotions such as joy, laughter, and smiling, while others express unwanted negative emotions such as sadness, anxiety, and tearfulness. These negative emotions we mentioned negatively affect the life of the individual. As a matter of fact, one of the emotions he experiences is anger. Individuals may feel anger when their plans are hindered as a result of daily events, injustice and unfairness, or anger due to the feeling they experience about issues that they feel threaten their individuality. Anger is divided into two: state anger and trait anger. Situational anger occurs when the individual thinks that it is related to the event, and the intensity of the anger varies depending on the severity of injustice, injustice or obstruction he perceives. Trait anger is defined as perceiving many events and environments as annoying or hindering, and at the same time, the tendency to experience frequent state anger.
Anger varies from individual to individual in terms of the way it is expressed. Individuals may tend to internalize their anger, control it, or direct it externally. While individuals who keep their anger in and keep it under control prefer not to express it, people who direct it externally express their anger physically or verbally (criticism, swearing). It is important here that it is related to the phenomenon of stress experienced by the person. Nowadays, almost everyone lives their life with stress. There are also areas where he/she will feel negative and pressured, such as expectations, sources of stress in business life, exams, wishes and desires to be successful. If this anger harms our physical integrity or the physical integrity of someone else, the anger we reflect may not be healthy. For example, an individual who has intense relationships with people may act angry throughout the day. If it disrupts his relationships in his survival, it would be beneficial to get psychological support. We see similar examples of this when we go out into the social environment. Just this morning, while I was traveling by bus, I overheard the driver talking. As a passenger, I felt uncomfortable as a result of his verbal (slang) speech. Yes, it becomes a person's lifestyle. Maybe because the environment he lives in may talk like that, but I believe that complying with the rules of respect that we need to pay attention to in society will bring us to the level of contemporary civilization.
Do the research on anger in Turkey show that we are an angry nation? I would like to answer this question based on my humble observations that we are not a calm nation at all. We can get angry quickly and respond without thinking. This may cause us harm. As psychologists, it is important for the authority of the society that we act within reasonable standards by inviting the society to common sense, filtering it through the filter of reason, and reacting appropriately. It would be beneficial for the growing generations not to ignore this issue and to ensure that their reactions to their peers, siblings and elders do not harm themselves or the people around them. Growing generations have important duties for our state, our nation, and our teachers. I think it is our duty as an individual to fulfill this properly.
