Myofascial Pain Syndrome; It is a soft tissue rheumatism characterized by trigger points detected in regional or several muscle groups and pain that occurs with palpation of these trigger points. Non-inflammatory soft tissue rheumatism includes two diseases; Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Syndrome. It is often confused with diseases such as fibromyalgia, lumbar-neck hernia, neck flattening, sciatica. It occurs in incompatibilities between soft and hard tissue. It is colloquially called kulunç.
What is Trigger Point? It is the transition glitch between soft and hard tissue. Pressure from hard tissue (bone) to soft tissue (muscle). They are painful and sensitive points that develop on the basis of tense bands that develop on the muscle. It is popularly known as kulunç. It often gives a pain that occurs along the line in the form of a punctuate stinging, burning or ribbon band, and gives a disintegrating symptom like sand.
The Cause of Myofascial Pain Syndrome; Conditions that cause muscle spasms are the most common causes of genetic factors, excessive fatigue, repetitive compelling movements, work accidents, neck and waist hernias, occupational deformation, stress and anxiety, posture disorders, seasonal illness, standing in the same posture for a long time.
Symptoms of Myofascial Pain Syndrome; It is muscle stiffness, tenderness, squeezing and burning, stinging point pain or pain that occurs throughout the muscle in the form of a strip. They complain of pain in areas such as head-back-neck-chest-waist-scapula-knee cap-ankle and sciatica.
Diagnosis of Myofascial Pain Syndrome; Diagnosis is made by history and examination. It gives symptoms by palpation (manual examination) of the affected area. Radiological and laboratory tests may be required and in some cases it can be confused with fibromyalgia.
Myofascial Pain Syndrome Treatment; The aim is to relieve pain, to create sufficient muscle strength, to provide proper posture and full range of motion of the joint related to the affected muscle. Applied methods are Manual therapy, Acupuncture, Neural Therapy, Ozone Therapy, Spraying, Local injections, Kinesioband, Mobilization and Manipulation, Exercise and Physical Therapy.
