What to Pay Attention to to Avoid Neck Pain?

Hello, my dear patients;

Today, I would like to give you some information that I think will be useful to you about neck problems that are very common in society.

According to research, 85% of us have had neck problems at least once in our lives. If anything, he will have neck problems. So why are neck problems so common?

Considering the location of the neck area, our cranium, or head area, is located at the top. We need some muscles to move our head in various directions, and these muscles are located in the neck area. Considering how much we move our heads in a day, one of the most important causes of neck pain is actually using our neck muscles too much.

Another important reason why neck pain is so common is that our neck muscles are quite superficial. To explain this situation better, every time we move our head left or right or in other directions, a vector load is placed on the neck muscles. Since our neck muscles are more superficial than other muscle groups, they are much more affected by these vector forces than our other body parts. This is actually the reason why stiff neck is much more common than stiff neck.

When explaining the causes of pain in general, we doctors generally categorize the causes of pain into two. One of these is modifiable risk factors; The other is unchangeable risk factors.

Considering the two reasons I tried to summarize above, it does not seem possible to change them. Let's see what we can change now; So, let's talk about the reasons why we are less likely to experience neck pain if we pay attention to it.

I think there are a few main reasons for all our pain, not just neck pain. The good thing is that it is completely in our hands to prevent these reasons from occurring. So, if we take care to prevent these situations from occurring, our chances of experiencing pain will be quite low.

These reasons are;

-COLD

-MAKING SUDDEN AND REVERSE MOVEMENTS

-STRESS

You have no questions about these reasons I mentioned. I want to give more information to my friends.

The mechanism by which cold and stress cause pain complaints is actually quite similar. Both of them cause vasoconstriction, that is, contraction of the muscles. To put it in simpler language, think of our muscles as water. With cold and stress, this water turns into ice. This causes our neck muscles to lose their normal position and shorten. This shortening in the neck muscles causes our neck curve (cervical lordosis) to be straighter, as it should normally be. In fact, this is exactly what we call NECK FLATTENING, which you often hear from us doctors.

In addition, stress generally causes tension in the whole body, that is, it causes us to tense ourselves more. The reason for this situation is the excessive secretion of some hormones such as adrenaline in case of stress. These hormones secreted during stress cause not only pain but also many other diseases.

Making sudden and adverse movements puts more load and tension on our neck muscles than normal, causing neck pain. It happens.

Let me try to summarize the topics I want to give in this article for you, my patients.

THINGS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER TO AVOID NECK PAIN:

1-TRY TO KEEP YOUR NECK AREA AS WARM AS POSSIBLE.

2-AVOID THE COLD.

3-TAKE CARE TO AVOID SURPRISE AND REVERSE MOVEMENTS

4-TRY TO REDUCE THE STRESS FACTORS IN YOUR LIFE.
