The fact that an athlete's body type, muscle structure or measurements are suitable for the demands of a sport branch may indicate that that athlete can adapt to the relevant branch more quickly. It is an important feature in talent selection and evaluation of athlete performance. Body types are also called somatotype.

Somatotype consists of Endomorphy, Mesomorphy and Ectomorphy types respectively.

Ectomorph Slim build, difficult to gain weight, bones are small and muscles are thin, shoulders are narrow and muscle ratio is deficiency is seen.

Mesomorph; People with this body type have a lean and muscular body structure, broad shoulders, thin waist, medium thick bones, wide rounded muscle structures, and an athletic body structure.

Endomorph; It has round body lines and medium-thick bones, metabolism works slower than other types, and it is a type that gets fat easily.

As a result of the measurements, it has been observed that athletes can have both dominant and recessive body types.

For example, ''Ectomorphic Mesomorph''; Mesomorph, written at the end, is the dominant body type of the athlete. So here, the athlete's body type is, in summary, an athletic body type and a thin body structure suitable for gaining muscle mass.

The "Endomorphic Mesomorph" has an athletic body type, but their bodies are thicker and they are more likely to gain weight from fat mass. The "Endomorphic Ectomorph" type means that it has a thin and tall body structure, but although weight gain is difficult, it may be more prone to gaining fat mass.

Athletes with body types that are especially prone to fat should pay more attention to carbohydrate consumption. While carbohydrates are used as an energy source in normal athletes and the excess is stored as fat, in athletes with this body type, carbohydrates are more suitable to be stored mainly as fat because their metabolism is slow.

The recessive body type determined in these measurements may change. For example; If an athlete with the "Balanced Mesomorph" type eats poorly and does not take good care of himself, he may slide into the "Endomorphic Mesomorph" body type. Or the athlete with the endomorphic mesomorph body type takes good care of himself and looks good. If he follows a nutrition plan, he can shift to a balanced mesomorph body type.

The benefit of determining the athlete's body type is to prepare the necessary nutrition and training program according to the athlete's body type, especially during the preparation periods at the beginning of the season, so that the athlete enters the season with the ideal body composition and improves it. will be.
