Principles of safe sleep for babies
- The room where the baby sleeps should be spacious, ventilated before sleep, and there should be no smoking in the room.
- To keep the baby warm, the room should be spacious. Thick clothes should not be worn, cotton clothes should be preferred and the temperature of the room should be between 22-26 degrees.
- Baby bed should be hard and should not be placed near the window.
- Due to the risk of allergy, furry toys, furry carpets, beds. cover etc. It should not be left in the room.
- The electric lamp and its cable should be kept away from the baby.
- If a pacifier is used, it should not have long laces. (risk of suffocation)
- Animals should not be kept near the baby.
- Heavy toys should not be kept on the baby's bed or hanging on the edges of the bed.
- The baby's diaper should not be kept. It should be changed as little as possible at night and care should be taken to ensure that the diaper is not cold.
- If the same bed is to be shared with the baby, the baby should not be placed between the mother and father, the baby should be between the mother and the wall. A wide bed should be used. If the mother or father has consumed alcohol, the same bed should not be shared with the baby. Overweight parents should not sleep with the baby.
- Pillows or blankets should not be used for the first year.
- Mothers should not wear lace-up nightgowns or jewellery.
