GUM SURGERY AND FLAP OPERATION

Gum surgery (Periodontal Surgery) includes numerous surgical approaches to the gums. In this article, FLAP OPERATION (FLAP OPERATION), which is applied only in cases of advanced Periodontitis, will be explained without going into details. It is a bacterial chronic, low-intensity, insidiously progressing inflammation that occurs when the disease progresses to the subgingival tissues, the edges of the jaw bones, and the fibers connecting the teeth to the jaw bones. It is not possible to provide a completely bacteria-free environment in the mouth. The targeted treatment approach is to ensure the balance of bacteria and the host body environment, to suppress pathogenic bacteria, and to prevent damage by eliminating the reservoirs in which bacteria accumulate. When an advanced destruction is observed, it is necessary to stop this destruction and to ensure that the chewing process is carried out at a level that allows the teeth to function with minimum aesthetic loss. Unfortunately, our patients come to us after their diseases have progressed considerably. When the disease passes a certain stage, loosening of the teeth, gingival pocket depths exceeding 6-7 mm, intense bad breath, tooth displacements and gaps, general exhaustion, fatigue, frequent colds and flu, a bad metallic taste in the mouth, elongation of the teeth, The disease manifests itself as widespread recession in the gums and requires intensive surgical intervention. In this case, the operation we call FLAP OPERATION is applied.

WHAT IS FLAP OPERATION - HOW IS IT DONE?

This surgical approach is based on the principle of open, see, clean, close. which cannot be completely eliminated by closed root debridement. nbsp; The 6-7 mm pockets, the deposits in the reservoirs formed by these pockets, the microbial nest subgingival stones and biofilms stuck to the root are made by gently removing the gingiva under local anesthesia, washing it, cleaning it and sewing it to its new place with very thin stitches. It is comfortable after the operation, there is minimum problem in aesthetic appearance, and maximum clean environment is provided. Since the gingival pockets can be completely removed, if periodic care and control are given, the disease will be treated and the teeth will remain in place for a long time. After the operation, cold is applied, hot baths, physical activity, hard and hot foods are restricted. There is no harm in the patient continuing to work. After a week, the stitches are gently removed and care recommendations are given. Surgical techniques vary, but the goal is the same. This is the essence of the treatment: minimum destruction, minimum aesthetic defect, maximum pocket reduction, maximum clean environment and maintaining this goal in the long term with the cooperation of the patient. Since other detailed information includes the surgical protocol, it is not necessary to go into detail here. Flap operation is an operation technique that we have successfully performed on thousands of patients in our professional life of more than 40 years, with predictable results and supported by numerous scientific studies. It just requires sufficient experience, knowledge, and appropriate equipment.

I wish you a speedy recovery and offer my best regards, sir.
